Last week, we participated on the Posadas Educational Summit on behalf of Maritur DMC. Hosted at the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancún All Inclusive Spa Resort, with a unique program featuring the Fiesta Americana Condesa and the Live Aqua Limitless Cancún. Always blown away by the wide variety of hotel product available in Mexico by this group, their quality and outstanding service.

Special thanks to Eva Lopez, Lorena Vilchis (ella/she/her), and Elizabeth Mendoza at the Grand Fiesta Coral Beach, for their hospitality.

Besides transportation services, Maritur DMC also curated a unique cultural experience for this program at an exclusive Mayan Cenote. Stay tuned for the whole experience while you enjoy this photos of the wonderful days we spent in Cancun, Mexico!

Today we want to share with you the story of , which Maritur DMCuses for event decor, corporate gifts and activities.

These brightly colored animal that escaped the nightmares of an artist and appear as a variety of different species - both real and fantastic.

Pedro Linares was a renown indigenous Mexican artist who first created alebrijes using papier mâché. Linares became very ill when he was 30 years old. He laid in bed and lost consciousness, dreaming of a bizarre, peaceful place that resembled a forest. The land features around him shaped themselves into animals that were familiar and yet strange. There were mules with dragonfly wings, roosters with antlers, creatures that resembled gryphons and dragons. They had unnatural colors and patterns. These creatures began chanting a single word: alebrije... alebrije!

In the 30's, Pedro Linares made piñatas, carnival masks, and religious figures from papier mâché that were sold in mercados throughout Mexico City. He caught the attention of prominent gallery owners and eventually Diego Rivera and Frida Khalo began commissioning alebrijes by Linares. These became celebrated throughout Mexico and abroad. Thus, Linares was equipped to take a folk art tradition in a new direction.

One of our inspirations while promoting Latin America has been the . Covering much of northwestern Brazil and extending into Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and other South American countries, this the world’s largest tropical rainforest, famous for its biodiversity.

Most recently, the Amazon Forest has been at the epicenter of a global environmental crisis, and although the fires made headlines in 2019, the accelerated deforestation continues.

While there many things we can do as individuals to minimize our carbon footprint and make a positive impact on the environment, some issues are beyond our control. All we can do is raise our voice and against corporate greed and calling out elected officials such as , the current president in Brazil, who has played the role of an environmental pariah.
