Cliffs of Suduroy - Saknur by Hanus G. Johansen
This video is a slide show with photos from the cliffs of Suðuroy, Faroe Islands, accompanied by a beautiful and quiet song, which is song and composed by Hanus G. Johansen, the poem was written by Poul F. Joensen, who grew up in the village Sumba which is the southernmost village in the Faroe Islands and has Beinisvørð as a part of the scenery. Beinisvørð is a 470 meter high sea cliff between Sumba and Lopra; it is a cliff on the west coast and a steep green slope which goes down to Sumba on the eastern side. Poul F. Joensen moved to Froðba in the northern part of the island, and lived there for the rest of his life. He is amongst the best poets of the Faroe Islands. He was born in 1898 and died in 1970.
All the photos are taken by Eileen Sandá, and she also made this video. Hanus G. Johansen and Poul F. Joensen's son have given their permission for using the materials of Johansen and Joensen for this video.
Lyrics:
Saknur
Sárt sakni eg teg, væna mín.
Hví rýmdi tú frá mær?
Tað er sum sól og summar
av garði fór við tær,
tí allir fuglar tiga,
hvør blóma fána er,-
mín hugur eltir har tú fer,
mín sál er friðleys her.
So tekkilig og eygagóð.
sum Venus vøn og skær,
eitt bládypi av sælu
í tínum eygum var,
sum spunnið gull var hárið,
so fannhvít undir lín,
tín mjúki barmur heitur brann,
á varrum vætti vín.
Tú ferðamøddi fuglur, sum
so víða farin er,
sást tú mítt fljóð, hitt fagra,
á tíni longu ferð?
Hon er ein eyðkend rósa,
sum summarsólin vøn.-
Á, góða, elskaða. kom heim,
hoyr mína hjartans bøn!
