Starting a perfect Saturday at Lively Lane House with a quiet cup of coffee overlooking the forest is so rejuvenating! Next, hit Lava Butte Trail for a moderate 3-mile hike and enjoy the amazing views of Deschutes National Forest and the stunning lava flows. The hike is worth it, and the views are just spectacular! Did you know that Lava Butte is a cinder cone rising 500 feet above Lava Lands Visitor Center? The cinder covered trail encircles the rim of the cone, and you'll get to experience outstanding views. Atop Lava Butte, there is a working fire lookout to add to the thrill!

Some of the best hiking in Central Oregon can be found in the spring. The wildflowers are popping up, the weather isn't too warm yet, and the summer crowds haven't yet rolled in. Here's our pick of the month!

Cascade seekers won't want to miss a chance to hike the Benham Falls Trail from Sunriver when they're in town. This scenic and relatively simple hike is popular with outdoor enthusiasts of all ages for its smooth path that winds over 2 miles roundtrips. Follow alongside the Deschutes River as it transforms from gentle currents to aggressive rapids before reaching Benham Falls, which are categorized as the largest on the upper portion of the river. It's no surprise that this portion of The Deschutes is also extremely popular with white water rafters.
