This is a lovely run from Tythe House. The map is also useful for finding the walk across the fields from Bampton to the Trout Inn at Tadpole Bridge, so it is a good pub lunch walk. When walking, the best way back is probably to enjoy the same way back. If you continue on to Aston along Great Brook, you do have a beautiful walk, you can get a cup of tea (before 4pm) at Aston Pottery, but the downside is then you have a mile along the main Aston to Bampton road that has no pavement. There is a grass verge, which we use, but it is uneven, so take care for those of you whoe feel it is worth the mile for the rest of it (which we certainly do if we are running it, but wouldn't like it so much as a walk.)
Directions to the Trout from TH. Turn right and head down the lane towards Bampton, right to the end of Mount Owen Road. Turn right into Aston Road, then turn left into Buckland Road. You will go over a small bridge called Fishers Bridge and then you will see a footpath to your to your right leading to the recreation ground. Follow the footpath round the recreation ground righthand perimeter and you'll go into the Shillbrook Woods. Follow the footpath to Rushey Lock. Then at Rushey Lock turn left along the river to Tadpole bridge. For walkers, after enjoying a visit to the pub, return the same way as you came to avoid main roads.
