According to an ancient Filipino legend, when the bathalas (gods) made the world, they took special time in creating the verdant and lovely island nation of the Philippines. The expenditure of extra time was worth it as they saw how beautiful the country is. They were so impressed with their creation that they decided to make 7,107 more of these islands, each with its own geologic, historical, and cultural characteristic. Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte is one of these beautiful paradises.

Kalanggaman Island, also known as Calangaman, is a pristine islet in the Philippines with gorgeous white-sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise water.

It’s nearly impossible to put into words how incredibly beautiful this speck of land is. No Kalanggaman Island description will do it justice. It left me speechless.

Already the first glimpses of the white sand and abundant coconut trees in the middle of the ocean will give you goosebumps.

"KALANGGAMAN ISLAND
PALOMPON, LEYTE"

The name Kalanggaman was given to the island because it looks like a bird when seen from above. “Langgam” in Visayan language is Bird. The “wings” of the island changes from time to time due to the change of current and tides. It was also due to the migratory birds that visits the island during migration season (but now, there are few of them because of human activities).
If you are lucky enough to book for an overnighter, make sure that you witness the beautiful sunset (unless it rained). It has the most picturesque sunset. And during night time, the shore will light up due to some bioluminescent planktons.
