In addition to loving to travel I love learning about new places. So when I started planning a trip to Puerto Rico the first thing I did was complete the agent training program. I learned so much!
One of my favorites was learning about the La Ruta del Lechón, Puerto Rico's Pork Highway. This 3 mile stretch of restaurants is dedicated to one of the island's traditional dishes, spit roasted pork. This is what I love most, finding the unique, off the beaten path and very local destinations. I'll tell you more of what we find in two weeks!

Did you know the largest fully functioning pipe organ in the world is the Wanamaker Organ located within a seven-story grand court at a Macy's (formerly the Wanamaker department store) in Philadelphia? This is an easy to miss but very interesting stop if you happen to be checking out Philly!
When was the last time you checked your passport expiration date? Those rumors about passport renewal taking months are true!
Ideally your passport should be valid for six months after your travel dates and some countries even require it. Routine service is currently at 18 weeks for standard and 12 weeks for expedited, including mailing time. If you have travel plans within 72 hours you may be able to get an appointment for a rushed in person renewal.
If you are thinking about taking an international trip this year make sure to plan ahead and check your passport!
And yes, when I dug out my passport after a year of staying close to home I discovered it expired in six months. Since I always want to be ready to go anywhere if the opportunity comes up I immediately filled out my paperwork, got an updated photo and mailed everything in. Since you also send in your current passport when you renew I've been anxiously awaiting my new passport and it finally arrived! Sent date 5/27. Arrival date 9/4.

Travel isn't always hopping on a plane for a big trip. I am a big fan of the long weekend mini-trips. Sometimes it's all we can fit into our busy schedules and can be just the refresh we need.
I spent last weekend at Dinosaur National Monument. The history was fascinating and we saw so many fossilized dinosaur bones and petroglyphs. We stayed in Vernal, Utah at Antlers Inn, which is a quaint motel with spacious rooms.
Dinosaur is also a Dark Sky Area. For any other Astronomy nerds that means more stars than you can count!

Souvenir Spotlight!
I always enjoy finding something unique and local to bring home as a souvenir from travels. This is a lamp handcrafted in Playa Del Carmen. When visiting the Quintana Roo (Cancun) area of Mexico you will see lights similar to this hanging in local restaurants and shops. I spent at least an hour in Jellyfish Lights shop picking out this lamp. They are all fun and different! Any favorite souvenirs you want to share?

Bike share programs are a great way to explore a new city. New Orleans has a great system of trails to get around. Because there is so much more to NOLA than what you will find in the French Quarter.
Just got back from Austin Texas and the travel bug has hit me hard. I'm daily dreaming up new trips. So I want to know, where do you want to go? Beach, mountains, National Parks? Specific destination or anywhere with a great deal and easy travel?

Rental cars are in short supply and high demand everywhere. When planning a trip the three big costs to keep in mind are flights, accommodations and rental cars. If you have flexibility in your schedule it's worth the time to research all three to balance the costs. I'm seeing this as I book vacations for Hawaii but there are still some decent prices available, in the $100+ per day range. Don't delay in planning and booking if summer travel is your goal!
Two to three years ago, rental cars in Hawaii were going for about $50 a day. Now, some rentals are going for over $500 a day, an expert said.
