🚨 +18 History lesson 🚨
Here are Têtons de la Reine Margot and Coucougnettes, traditional and delicious Pau sweets whose origins are, let’s say, quite gossipy. 🗣️🗣️🗣️
The first ones honour, literally, Queen Margot’s tits, the first wife to the king Henri IV. 👀 Shocking to say the least, so stay for its history behind to get the whole picture.
As an act in high regard to Queen Margot, the king wanted to gift her with something unique, so he ordered local chocolatiers to create unique pieces of chocolate. At that time, chocolate was considered a luxury good in Europe. 🍫🍫
Now, the good part comes in. The king wanted to make the gift even more unique and personal, so he decided to go over the top and asked the workers to make these chocolates tits-shaped. Yes, we know, such a shy proposition. 🙈
Rumour has it that Queen Margot was considered a sign of feminity at the time. Her breasts were a topic of discussion due to their voluptuousness.
These sweets became famous and controversial. Nowadays, they are considered a highlight of Béarn’s cuisine.
About Coucougnettes. They mean testicles in French slang 🥚🥚, but don’t you freak out, the naming is just a metaphor.
Crunchy almonds inside and then coated with dark chocolate, this sweet is rolled in a raspberry-flavoured almond paste turning into this pinky and rounded shape. 🤤🤤
Crazy as it sounds, these unconventional sweets were a tribute to the before mentioned King Henri IV, nicknamed the Green Galant, who was considered a womaniser and to whom historians attribute 57 lovers and 24 children.
They were awarded as the Best Candy in France and are meant to be enjoyed at the end of a meal or for gourmet pleasure.
After this nasty History class, there’s no doubt that even the background of food can be a whole experience to discover. 🔥🔥🔥
✨Sweet as pie never sounded truer!✨
