Surfers use technology to accurately predict where the swell will be. Professionals such as Kelly Slater hop on the plane to Barbados and other hot surf spots. It could be that very soon, with the use of AI, birders can do the same to track and follow migratory birds to their next hot spot!! Technology allows us to understand and interact with nature so much better.

A record migration of Whimbrel has been seen on Barbados this year. I wonder if some of these birds passed by the site mentioned in South Carolina. Entirely possible.

Vast flocks of Whimbrels were thought to be a thing of the past, until a wildlife biologist discovered nearly 20,000 of these declining shorebirds on a tiny South Carolina island.

All birders knows the feeling of being in the right place at the right time. A plover extravaganza in Barbados! Can’t remember a migration like this since the early 80s.
