SIGHTSEERS!

A miracle in its own. Mother nature works in mysterious way!

'Neelakurunji' carpets only in Shola forests(tropical rain forest) of Western Ghats in South India.

Botanical name: Strobilanthes Kunthiana
Local name: Kumandhari, Arulupoo and Kurrelpoo.

The purplish blossoms have covered the hills of Kote Betta & Mandalpatti in Coorg. This flower blooms only once in 12 years. It blooms in cold weather after the monsoon and it is a shrub plant that has medicinal value.

This species of Neelakurunji needs 12 rainy and summer seasons to bloom. After every blooming, the entire plant will get destroyed, and the next generation grows from the seeds.

Next flowering in these hills is expected by 2033.

"It is not Coorg that is the Scotland of India but Scotland that is the Coorg of the United Kingdom"

The landscape of Coorg and Scotland are similar all over. With streams and water bodies sprawling across the lands, the inhabitants have naturally adapted to the region.
