🍂 Off Peak Switzerland 🍂

Not to get ahead of ourselves... But there is a lot to be said for exploring off peak.

The Alps are of course famous for snowy peaks and skiing... And also crystal lakes and wildflower meadows... But Autumn here is not to be underestimated 🍁

Lovers of long walks can find themselves more or less alone in spectacular landscapes, and the chilly weather makes hearty food extra welcome 🫕

Plus, who doesn't love a misty autumnal train ride? More or less guaranteed with our trips 🥰

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - "We had such a great weekend trip to the Loire Valley. Possibly the best weekend break we have done!

We really enjoyed the quick and easy rail connection from London across to Saumur, where we had a transfer waiting to take us to the stunning country farmhouse for the weekend.

Couldn't recommend highly enough and thanks to Catherine for making the entire trip so easy"

"This trip involved lots of firsts for me: the first time I'd travelled by Eurostar, the first time I'd used the No Fly Travel Club and my first visit to Marseille.

Catherine provided very comprehensive information which helped navigate the journeys and gave a broad variety of suggestions for activities during our stay. Her detailed knowledge showed how valuable a resource the No Fly Travel Club is.

I had picked Marseille after reading about the city on the Club's website. It sounded just like my kind of place and I wasn't disappointed. It is a fascinating mixture of cafes, shops, old streets, views, historic sites, museums and churches - all within walking distance.

Hotel Bellevue certainly lived up to its name! Located right on the marina, our room had a fabulous view not only of the waterfront, but also of the Basilica de Notre Dame on the hill opposite.

All in all this was a great trip. I'd definitely travel by Eurostar again - SO much nicer and easier than all the hassle at an airport! And the No Fly Travel Club did all the hard work for us, so we'll definitely be asking them to make more arrangements for us in the future. The only tricky thing is going to be choosing which of those lovely sounding destinations to try next..."

Booking holidays is always exciting, but in the wake of Covid we understand it's important to make sure your money is secure.

As part of our commitment to transparency, we believe we it's vital to properly protect your money. Along with many travel companies post-Covid, we have therefore moved away from bonding (such as ABTA) and instead towards a trust account model to keep your money safe. Did you know that every time you travel with us, you help to rewild Europe's last wilderness? ✨

Reducing flights is a huge part of what we're about, but biodiversity loss is another huge issue that we all have a role to play in tackling 💚

That's why we are so excited to be working alongside , investing in reforestation projects for each passenger who departs on a trip with us 🌱

Our trees are planted in the Southern Carpathians in Romania, an area of huge biodiversity which has sadly been impacted by illegal logging over the years. Mossy Earth hand selects a mixture of carefully selected varieties, to be planted by local workers 🙌

Each trip and every tree goes a little way to protecting and reviving the fragile ecosystem 🌲🌳

👋👋 Catherine here, founder of No Fly Travel Club ☺️ Happy Friday and welcome if you're new here!

I was listening to a podcast yesterday with , and was interested to hear her explain how these days we tend to think of ourselves as separate from nature, rather than part of it. In her opinion, this is a huge part of why we struggle to change our ways 💚

But she also spoke about how the awe and magic we feel when visiting natural spaces can relieve stress and help us to reconnect to the world around us ✨

On No Fly Travel Club trips, we aim to include opportunities for you to immerse yourself in awe-inspiring landscapes, whether it's the crystal clear waters of Les Calanques, the forested banks of the river Elbe or the rugged Basque coastline. That's why (even with our city breaks) we choose locations which offer easy access to nature - without a car 🌱

The last few days have been spent diving into our directory of local contacts in the region of Italy... From guided hikes and tastings to exploring the lake by sailing boat, the variety of spectacular slow travel experiences available is so exciting! 😍

We especially love to see a region's tourism board market their destination from a sustainable standpoint. Promoting local businesses, prioritising low carbon transport and offering plenty of chances to enjoy nature respectfully are some of the markers we look for when selecting destinations and suppliers 🙌

Fortunately in Como there is no shortage of fabulous partners to work with! We can't wait to share this one 🏞️

In January 2022, 2 years after we heard about Covid-19, the roller coaster of travel restrictions continues... But don't worry! We've got your back 🙌

Newly added to the website you'll find a Covid 19 restrictions guide which we will do our best to keep up to date as far as possible. As always you can book now with just a deposit, with the option to change dates free of charge up to 2 weeks before your departure date if you need ♥️

Current Omicron restrictions into the Netherlands, Belgium and France are tight, which is limiting visits to these countries and making onward connections tricky 🙄 However, UK restrictions have loosened, with no more pre-departure tests required - just a day 2 antigen test (costing around £19). There are whispers of similar announcements to come from other nations in the next few weeks, so we're crossing fingers for better news soon!

In the meantime, here's a throwback to simpler times, waking up to misty views from our night train as it wove it's way along the Rhine... 🌳🏞️

🎉 2022 is here! Happy New Year - hope you found some peace and quiet among the madness.

While we're not big ones for resolutions, January is a great time to plan for the year ahead. And, with climate change top of the agenda, we are excited to see the changes that so many have already made - particularly when it comes to the kind of travel you're planning 💚

Top of our wishlist for later this Spring is lazily snaking our way to scenic Tuscany 🇮🇹 through France. And once we're there? A healthy portion of doing absolutely nothing, with a side of outdoor exploration and (copious) local produce 😌🍷🌳

This year, maybe even more so than the year before, many of us have been involuntarily grounded. ✈️❌

In some ways it makes us even more desperate to jump back into travel....but on the other hand it also gives us some new perspective on the idea of the journey 🚝

If you haven't got back into the habit of flying about yet, it might seem more distant than it used to. Maybe the world seems bigger to you now than before. We certainly feel that. As we approach the end of the year, it seems like a good time to reflect on travel habits, and how we could use these feelings to positively impact our impacts ♻️🌍

Our friends at run a campaign each year to encourage people to quit flying for the next 365 days. We love this idea - you can challenge yourself try something different for just one year... And if you like it you can always continue 🤔

Could you give it a go for 2022? If so, you don't have to give up travel. Let us be your inspiration ✨

We are very proud that all of our trips have now been professionally assessed for their transport carbon emissions! You can find C02 labels on each trip description (underneath the "accommodation" section) 🎉⁠

We also added the emissions you would generate if you took the same trip by plane - so that you can compare and make an informed choice ✈️🚆⁠

Transport makes up the largest chunk of the emissions from a trip - with waste and energy usage coming in at 2nd and 3rd place 🏭⁠

In the long run we're working towards assessing trips for these elements too - however as we work with small, independent suppliers this can be challenging. It takes time and resources to assess your carbon emissions, which is why lots of small businesses who are doing awesome things get overlooked. Kind of like the opposite of greenwashing! 🌱⁠

With that in mind, for now we're prioritising working with those suppliers who actively engage in sustainable and regenerative practises (E.g. going plastic-free, sourcing products from local suppliers, growing organic food on-site, employing local people for a fair wage etc), and whose ethos matches ours. Together we'll work towards reporting how we walk the walk. ✅⁠
