Explanation of these buildings history & stories

Church of Our Lady of Lourdes Klang

Our Lady of Lourdes Church (Klang) built by the Catholic missionaries in 1928, was a beacon of hope to many. The Church demonstrated the true meaning extended and performed by the Catholic Church together, both with her Priest and as a Parish itself in helping migrants to settle and adjust in a new land. The sense of homelessness for the many migrant Chinese, Indians as well as Filipinos was not only geographical but also spiritual in nature. Our Lady of Lourdes Church reached out and gave them both, spiritual and social attachments to Catholicism. Coming to Church provided a connection between their homeland and new communities. The priest was mostly important in being a friend for guidance and offering counsel in difficult times, in a then British colonised Malaya as it was known.

Masjid India Klang Tengku Kelana

This is a very old mosque originally built by the Indian muslim community that migrated from India. The current mosque was renovated and today stands as a two storey building that has a commanding view of the adjacent shopping district. Do remember to take off your shoes and dress modestly in reverence to the sanctity of the place. The history of Masjid India Muslim Tengku Kelana goes back to 1910, but the present building is more recent, having been constructed between 2007 and 2009. It incorporates some aspects of the original mosque that bears elements of South Indian mosque architecture. The present mosque was built by Johawaki Construction, which also built the Federal Territory Mosque and PERDA City Mall, among others. This mosque located in Jalan Tengku Kelana, within Little India, caters to the Indian Muslim community. Historically important, this was the centre where Southern Indians migrated to Malaya in the 18th century. A worship centre was built in Klang in 1890. This centre of worship was turned into a mosque in 1910 and governed by an Indian merchant. The original mosque was demolished in 1973 and rebuilt as the present 2 storey building we see today.

During the Japanese rule of Malaya, it was used as war headquarter. After the independence of Malaya in 1957, it was used as Klang District office. The museum was initially opened in 1988 as the Memorial Museum (Malay: Muzium Kenangan). The gallery was officiated on 19 October 2007 by Sultan Sharafuddin. The gallery is about the former Selangor Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. The Royal Gallery is currently chaired by then nephew of Salahuddin of Selangor , The Tengku Indera Pahlawan Diraja Selangor (Yang Amat Dihormati Tengku Dato' Setia Putra Alhaj bin Tengku Azman Shah Alhaj)

Klang Kwan Imm Temple

Built in 1892, it is over a century old and is one of the oldest temple in Malaysia. At one time it was in dire condition with termite infestation threatening to destroy the old buildings. It was almost demolished until the Sultan of Selangor declared it a state heritage site. Funds poured in and the temple was restored to it's former beauty. The locals in their Hokkien call it the Kuan Imm Teng. It is now an actively used temple for prayers. The temple is fairly large one sitting on a large compound with an entrance pavilion leading to the main pavilion which takes centre stage, and a few ancillary building at it's side. On another side is a nice Chinese garden with a Koi pond and beautiful statues. Artisans from China were brought in to finish off the stone and timber work detailing of this building.
