Buongiorno!
One of our fun day trips included a trip to Pisa! There was more than a tower here. The Duomo is gorgeous, with a ceiling decorated in gold leaf! And the Baptistery where Galileo was baptized is impressive! Our local guide gave us amazing insight into the centuries of work and different techniques tried to mitigate the tower lean . We also had a lovely time doing some shopping and of course gelato! Later in the day we visited an agriturismo farm and made our dinner! Making pasta in Tuscany was a real highlight. Happy to say my groui's tiramisu was the winner in the taste contest! Traveling in this tour is so simple! And seeing off the beaten path places like this farm are fantastic ways to absorb more local culture than just in the cities. Enjoy the photos! Siena! What a lovely city! This is a fascinating town! They hold the most insane horse race 🏇 in the center of town. Called the Palio di Siena. Jockeys ride ba****ck. And if they fall off, it's okay, it only matters which horse wins, with or without a rider! The patron saint of Italy, St Catherine of Siena was from here and the cathedral houses some of her relics and her birth place is a museum. The city is divided into 17 contrares/divisions each named for an animal. Where you are born dictates your loyalty when cheering on the race. It's a primarily pedestrian city so lovely narrow streets walking up and down. Our local guide provided lovely insight about the people,history and town. A true benefit of this kind of travel. We all can easily hear through our radios and ear buds. Then we had hours to explore on our own. We had an amazing local lunch on a side street. And of course, gelato!🍧. The more I do the more I feel this kind of tour is fabulous! We have spent each night in the same hotel, so unpack once. Then venture out each day. The bus takes us to the city, we have a local guide, then time on your own. And you can opt out and do your own thing for the day or in the city! Florence! Firenze!
So much to see here! The culture! Arts! Food! Our local guide provided us amazing insight on the sculptures, the lives of famous people and everyday people. You may not be aware that the different cites are very competitive ones! The guides in both Lucca and Florence pointed out that their craftsmen knew how to build a straight tower, unlike the ones in Pisa! 😆 we were treated to a leather shop display and definition, along with a visit to a goldsmith. Florence is famous for both! We were also able to use free time to visit the Accademia, shop, find gelato and good food, and more! Once again a full day! And then a lovely dinner with new friends In a local restaurant! This type of travel is the perfect blend of being with others and then finding what interests you! Fabulous first day in Tuscany! 🇮🇹Truly relaxing to travel where all you have to do is show up and choose what you want to do! Hassle free travel with a group! No stress trying to have to figure out how to get somewhere! Having a local guide hired to personally inform you and show you the highlights, sprinkling in some history, makes you truly appreciate what you are seeing.🤗 And then use your free time to see what your prefer as well as find the gelato, wine, cappuccino or shopping that you prefer! If you have never considered an already packaged tour, you are missing out! The group guide is there as your on site resource and it's amazing. Want tickets to see something? Local restaurant recommendations? Hotel question? The guide is your go to resource! Super relaxing! And the price is terrific. These are all from the first day!! And fabulous meals, pizza and gelato of course! 🍨🍷🍕🇮🇹
