Here’s a quick video of Porcelain Basin at Norris in Yellowstone National Park. One of my absolute favorite geyser areas in the park.
Bison and The Thunderer, Yellowstone National Park
What a beautiful day in Yellowstone National Park. The bison are all over the place and rutting.
This wonderful view is from Round Prairie across the street from Pebble Creek Campground.
The misty clouds in front of The Thunderer add a nice touch to the landscape.
I was lucky enough to get to spend some time with the fastest animal on the planet yesterday, the peregrine falcon. I was using my Merlin bird app because I had heard some red tailed hawks in the area. The peregrine falcon came up twice and I located it on some cliffs. Wow 🤩 🤯! What an amazing experience, only in Yellowstone National Park!
Bison are huge! A large bull can weigh 2000 pounds, run 30 miles per hour and jump over a 6 foot high fence. That’s a whole lotta bull!
Sometimes you gotta scratch that itch. We were watching this grizzly bear in Yellowstone National Park and nature called. This good looking besr had a nice session on the mountain. #bears #yellowstonenationalpark #yellowstone #wildlife #funny
What an excellent experience today up in the high country of Yellowstone National Park…
Ahhhh to get back in the park. It’s great to have access to the Northern Range during the winter but there’s something magical about the interior of Yellowstone National Park. Maybe it’s the fact that the highest concentration of geothermal on the planet is located there.
Here’s a short video of Morning Glory Pool from today. The roads are beginning to trickle open. You can now enter the North and West Entrances and access the Canyon Village area and the geyser basins.
The best part is that the Bear Management Area near Old Faithful has been decommissioned. What does this mean? We now have earlier access to the trails and geyser areas much earlier than ever. It’s absolutely amazing!

One true sign that spring has arrived is the return of the Mountain Bluebird. These little beauties are like a flash across the landscape. The male being bright blue and the female a blue/gray. Thanks for following the path of the Mountain Man! Www.MountainManGuiding.com
Here’s a little flashback of one of the best places in Yellowstone National Park. When I first experienced the Boiling River I lived in the bunkhouse in Gardiner. I had just experienced my first summer in Yellowstone National park and wanted more. I was working packing boxes that would be shipped to all of the gift shops eventually to start the 2008 season. My friends Op, Bone, Severson and Big L came to Bozeman like many to ski at Bridger Bowl. Only two those fellas knew I was actually in Gardiner working. We plotted a grand plan. I would go to the Boiling River early and “just happen to be there”. My friends showed up eventually… the rest is history…. From what we’ve heard it no longer exists….limestone and epic floods (June 13, 2022) don’t mix….What stories do you have from The Boiling River? #mountainmanguiding #yellowstonenationalpark #theboilingriver #soaking #yellowstoneflood #memoriesforlife #memoriesofthepast #yellowstone
This particular incident happened in Lamar Valley on August 27th, 2019. There were two bison carcasses not far away from each other on a ridge just east of Lamar River Canyon. There were multiple grizzly bears and wolves from the Junction Butte Pack in the vicinity looking for some lunch. This video captures a moment of pure, magical nature at its finest. Survival of the fittest, fastest and is pretty intense. The chase involves many members of said pack and a sow grizzly bear with cubs. I hope you enjoy this! www.MountainManGuiding.com
Here’s a fun reel of some animal highlights from over the years. You never know what a day inYellowstone National Park will bring to the table. I hope you like it! www.MountainManGuiding.com
Happy 152nd Birthday to Yellowstone, the world’s first national park! Here’s a quick reel with some fun historical photos. Now booking tours for the 2024 season at www.MountainManGuiding.com
Did you know the American Bison almost went extinct?! There are an estimated 50-60,000,000 animals before western expansion happened… by 1902 there were just over 20 left in Yellowstone National Park. The US Cavalry were the stewards of the grand old park at that time and helped build the population back to what it is today. I was on a tour with some folks from San Francisco and we got caught in a bison jam near the lower geyser basin at Nez Perce Creek, we waited for around an hour and were going nowhere. Finally I suggested we head back to Norris so we could at least get some geothermal action during the tour. We all agreed and headed back north. As we neared Norris we turned the corner at Elk Park something was different… water was shooting high in the sky… STEAMBOAT GEYSER was in FULL eruption mode! 🤩 As we gained access to the parking lot we luckily found a parking spot with no trouble. Myself and one of my clients made our way as fast as we could while the others egged us on to do so… here’s what I captured on this momentous occasion! Thanks for following along!www.mountainmanguiding.com I am now booking tours for the 2024 season in Yellowstone National Park! Cheers!
Magpies and other corvids such as ravens, crows, Stellar’s jays, gray jays and Clark’s nutcracker are seen in Yellowstone National Park. They are all very smart birds.
The American Dipper is a year round resident of Yellowstone National Park and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. They mainly subsist on insects and their larvae. They will also eat fish up to 3 inches long, fish eggs, snails and worms. We absolutely love thse little birds and are happy to share this experience with you!
Did you know Yellowstone National Park has more geothermal features than the rest of the world combined?!
This video of midges hatching on the Yellowstone River was taken in Paradise Valley on February 13th, 2023. #mountainmanguiding #yellowstone #flyfishing #earlyhatch #midgehatch
