Monroe County remains closed to visitors. The checkpoints at mile marker 112.5 on U.S. 1 and State Road 905 will remain in place and screenings will continue at Key West International and Marathon Florida Keys airports. After detailed discussions with the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County, the County will follow the Governor’s Executive Order 20-112. The new order takes effect at 12:01 a.m. Monday, May 4.

The Governor’s order allows retail businesses to operate at 25 percent of building capacity, but does not allow businesses to provide personal services, such as manicures or haircuts. Restaurants are to operate at 25 percent of indoor capacity. Outdoor seating capacity will not be limited, as long as tables are 6 feet apart and seated parties are groups of 10 or less. According to the directive, bars and bar seating in restaurants must remain closed. Bars are considered a business that derives more than 50 percent of its revenue from alcohol sales.

Monroe County will keep in place its visitor directive that requires vacation rentals and other lodging establishments to remain closed until further notice. The directive can be found at www.monroecountyem.com/covid19 under “airport, lodging, and travel.”

The County will continue the directive of using facial coverings in public settings. Senior citizens and individuals with an underlying medical condition are still strongly encouraged to stay at home and take all measures to limit the risk of exposure to COVID-19.

Checkpoint information can be found at www.monroecountyem.com/checkpoint. The Governor’s Order can be read in its entirety at https://www.flgov.com/wp-content/uploads/orders/2020/EO_20-112.pdf.

Again, these changes go into effect Monday, May 4. The County is still under the "Safer at Home" order until then.

Here is the latest update of the recovery efforts from Hurricane Irma.
• Key West International Airport, Florida Keys Marathon Airport and Naval Air Station Key West are all operational, but only for emergency response flights. The airports already have begun to receive emergency supplies and other emergency resources.
• There continues to be no commercial or general aviation at the airports until further notice.
• A light aircraft carrier is off the coast of the Keys ready to assist in the response.
• Monroe County still has a dusk-to-dawn curfew. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has brought in extra law enforcement to help with security.
• A priority is to reopen the three hospitals in the Keys: Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon and the Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West. Mariners Hospital opened Monday night and found water damage. They are working quickly to be able to receive patients.
• Trauma Star’s three air ambulance helicopters will be back in Monroe County midday after riding out the storm in Alabama. Trauma Star will be able to launch aircraft for medical emergencies after arriving in the Keys.
• FDOT is repairing two 300-foot stretches of road in the Keys that were washed out by Hurricane Irma. One is at mile marker 75 (along Sea Oates Beach) and one at mile marker 37. FDOT said it expects to be able to complete the work today.
• Monroe County residents and business owners who live in the Upper Keys are permitted to return to the Keys, beginning at 7 a.m. today. They must have a yellow re-entry sticker or show proof of residency or business ownership. A secondary checkpoint has been set up near the Midway Café at mile marker 80.5. But services, including water, power, sewer, fuel, medical service and cell service, are still limited.
• Monroe County is working quickly to restore services and make the County safe for residents and business owners in the Middle and Lower Keys to return, but this will take time.
• Urban Search and Recovery teams have arrived in Monroe County and are currently conducting operations in the Lower Keys.
• Shelters are in the process of being opened.
• Points of distribution for food and water will be opening throughout the day at the following locations: Key West Sears Town Plaza, Sugarloaf School, Marathon High School and the Key Deer National Wildlife Refuge on Overseas Highway on BIg Pine Key.
