We are saddened to share the passing of a founding member of Circle Michigan, Captain Bill Shepler. We send our condolences to the Shepler family.

Today, we mourn the loss of Bill Shepler, our beloved co-founder and Captain of Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry.

Bill's dedication and passion for connecting people to the beauty of Mackinac Island created unforgettable memories for countless guests. His legacy of service, leadership, and community spirit will forever be a part of our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Shepler family and friends during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Captain Bill. You will be deeply missed. 🌊⚓️⛴️

Don’t adjust your screen — you’re not seeing double. Twin red pandas have been born at the Detroit Zoo!

On June 17, Ravi, a 7-year-old male red panda, and Ginger, a 3-year-old first-time mom, welcomed twin cubs! So far, Ginger has been a very attentive and caring mother, and her cubs appear to be healthy, hydrated and vigorous. The first few months are critical for red panda cubs, as they remain fragile and heavily dependent on their mother. However, we are cautiously optimistic that these cubs will thrive.

For the next two to three months, Ginger will be caring for the cubs in a nest box that provides a secluded, quiet space for her to tend to her cubs. To minimize any potential stress for Mom, we’ve closed the pedestrian rope bridge over the red panda habitat. The bridge will reopen once the animal care staff feels that Ginger and her cubs have had more time to grow and thrive. Until then, you can visit Ravi on the east side of the Holtzman Wildlife Foundation Red Panda Forest.

We hope Ginger and Ravi’s cubs will grow to be strong, healthy ambassadors for their wild counterparts, helping raise awareness of red panda conservation needs. Please stay tuned to our social media channels as we track the cubs’ progress in the coming months!

Here's another sliver of information shared along our trip!
The Great Lakes were once America's busiest highways. Ships filled with lumber, coal, iron ore—and vacationers en route to lakeside resorts —crisscrossed the nation through these waterways. Unfortunately, the waters were as dangerous as they were busy, and often unpredictable storms and the resulting waves took down ships (and occasionally took lives). That shipwreck history is strikingly preserved within a dozen official shipwreck sanctuaries.

The bottomland of the Great Lakes is a time capsules of another era, with thousands of lost schooners, steamers and barges carefully preserved by the cold, fresh waters. They're also now preserved by the Michigan Underwater Preserve System, created by legislation in 1980 that preserves them for generations by making it a felony to remove portholes, anchors, even a fork from a wreck within. Some 2,300 square miles are preserved in 12 preserves, with many wrecks shallow enough to explore through snorkeling or glass-bottom boat tours that bring stories to life through on-board narration. (With US! This summer🤩)
