It has been 126 years since our Filipino Revolutionaries proclaimed independence from Spanish colonial rule and the Filipino flag unfurled for the first time in 1898, in the town of Cavite el Viejo (now Kawit) Cavite.
In 1962, the late President Diosdado Macapagal declared a presidential proclamation that set it as a public holiday by signing the Republic Act No. 4166 on August 4, 1964, changing the date of Philippine Independence to June twelve, making it a legal holiday in the Philippines.
