After Crystal Crawford went on Thirst Gear’s last tour in Missoula in 2020 where she and a group of friends pedaled a trolly from bar to bar, she was determined to start a similar business in the Flathead Valley. A year later, she bought the exact same trolley and launched Glacier Gears and Beers ...

Current access in Glacier National Park allows for cycling all the way to Big Bend, just past the Weeping Wall (where this photo was taken during a previous spring). The park has announced that Going-to-the-Sun Road will not open fully to vehicle traffic until after the July 4 weekend, so grab a bike from one of our local shops and hit the road for an amazing experience.

Hey! It's History Friday!

This week we have a picture showing some of the flood damage of 1964. This is an aerial view of Evergreen, which was the most damaged part of the Flathead Valley during the flood.

Torrential rains fell on top of a heavy mountain snow-pack on June 8-9, and caused one of the worst flash floods in the United States during the 20th century.

The final damage caused by the flood was estimated at $63 million dollars, which translates to over $590,020,900 million in today's dollars. Cleanup lasted months, and people in the Valley still remember the flood of '64.

A resident who lived outside the flood zone remembers, "We had several families staying in our lumber yards. The women would cook for everyone. We ate pretty good. Neighbors took care of each other."

Type in "Flood of 64" in our online catalog to find available items on the historic event.

The mountains look relatively snow-free from the valleys, but up high there’s plenty of snow left to melt.
