In my last post, I have mentioned about polish coast and mainly Gdańsk. For those who like a bit of history I would like to follow up with Gdańsk!
If you're history freak you must visit:
- The Fountain of Neptune is one of the oldest buildings. It was built between 1606 and 1634.This monument fits so well in Gdańsk architecture.
- St Mary's basilica. The construction of the basilica started in 1343 and lasted for…159 years! Now, over 600 years later it’s one of the most important building, truly a landmark for Gdańsk.
- Lighthouse in Gdańsk. It was built in 1893 and was the first lighthouse to use electrical lights on the Baltic Sea. An interesting fact is that it was built as a twin of the lighthouse in Cleveland, USA(which doesn’t exist anymore).
- Westerplatte is the place where World War II began and as well as a symbol of bravery and heroism of Polish soldiers fighting against the much bigger German army in September 1939.
Gdańsk has many more historical places, you can discover more. If you're planning a trip to Poland after the lockdown, let me know. I'm willing to help :)

The Polish Baltic coast will surprise you!
Poland’s lovely Baltic Coast hides beautiful lagoons, picturesque lakes, high cliffs, walking dunes and wide beaches covered with powdered, almost white sand.
Gdańsk it is city which is well worth the journey north, probably two days trip to this city is enough to discover the most popular places !
Moreover starting from Gdańsk, you can visit the Polish riviera, there is more than 700 km coast to discover :)
The advantage is that you can get to Gdańsk by plane, there is an airport ;)

When visiting Poland, it is certainly best to start with its biggest and the capital city of Warsaw. This 400-year-old city and its people have seen it all! During WWII, Warsaw has suffered greatly and it was almost completely destroyed. Now, less than a century later, it has become arguably one of Europe’s best cities to visit!
Warsaw is a medieval and neoclassical city.
You can check out Lazienki Park, one of the best parks in Europe. You can find majestic regal peacocks strolling around the pristine lake and you can spot some of the semi-tame red squirrels as well there.

If you're fancy visiting South of Poland, not far from Kraków, there is city Katowice which is located in Silesia region.
As a mining city, Katowice’s sudden growth in the 19th century was fuelled by its rich coal seams.
To know more about mining you can visit mining museum and also see the typical mining industrial buildings/houses.
For those who prefer spending time with a glass of beer in the central Śródmieście district, the pedestrianised Street Mariacka is Katowice’s main nightlife artery, there’s usually something going on along the street, whether it’s a wine and cheese fair or a concert.

Now, a bit of the WWII history, most of you know that Auschwitz-Birkenau, the N**i concentration and death camps is located in Poland and it's around an hour away from Kraków.
Auschwitz-Birkenau is open to the public as the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. It tells the story of the largest mass murder site in history and acts as a reminder of the horrors of genocide.
When I was there, it was very emotional time however it is worth visiting the place and it makes you aware of the history as we should all know.
With the VE day just passed, we should all reflect on the hard time which these prisoners had.

Poland’s underground city od salt, called Wieliczka!
It’s just 14km southeast of Kraków. If you want to experience the miners life, it’s a great place to visit. The deepest point you can reach is 327 m underground, the whole tour takes up to 3 hours with a guide. Every single piece is made of salt and one of the highlights is the salt lake which is denser than the Dead see. This is on the List.

If you need any help in planning your next trip, just drop me a message :)

Poland is a remarkable place. Forming a link between East and West, it’s a cheap and welcoming destination that has been slowly but surely finding its feet in the European holiday market.
