Yesterday felt like one giant exhale after holding your breath for four years. It was wonderful to see representation magnified on the inaugural stage yesterday and the culmination of what true democracy can achieve. Let’s take solace in that, relax a little and hit reset.

Now more than ever, we have to hold elected officials responsible and accountable. Yesterday’s events are not equivalent to hitting the reset button. We cannot erase white supremacy, police brutality, COVID response, indigenous neglect, etc. just by bringing in a new President. Because as put it, “being American is more than the pride we inherit”.

There’s a lot of work and healing left to do and we have a far way to go, however, yesterday did mark the end of a toxic relationship and for that we are hopeful.

9 QUOTES YOU PROBABLY WON’T SEE ON MLK JR DAY

REPOST from .edmondson

✊🏽 In the 53 years since his assassination, Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy as a radical civil rights leader has been whitewashed and watered down with surgical precision to the bite sized, Disneyland, “I have a dream”, social justice fairytale many of us were limited to learning about one day a year in social studies class.

✊🏽 But we all know that Dr. King was not celebrated simply for his message of ✨“love and light”✨ so take a look at just a few of the quotes that are so often “conveniently” left out of the mythology surrounding one of the most visible leaders of the civil rights movement.

✊🏽 This third Monday in January, let us please do better by the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. by honoring his complete and nuanced legacy. He was so much more than “a dream”.

☝🏽 To get more context for each of these slides and for the remaining two quotes, check out the highlight on my page.

👉🏽 Had you heard/read any of these before??

Don’t forget to follow, like, save, and share! If you learned something, Venmo @ LauraEdmondson.

New Year, New Folks to Follow!

Shouting out some wonderful Indigenous accounts that you should check out. Take a moment to support, be inspired by and learn about their ancestral stories!

Despite not seeing enough diversity, inclusivity or representation in the Outdoor Industry, a lot of BIPOC actively go outdoors and participate in hiking, skiiing, climbing, running, surfing, etc. so it’s important to remember that these accounts are not Activist accounts. Do not rely on them for your information and for them to teach you!Educate yourselves and instead be inspired by their incredible skill, strength, and overall badassness 🤙🏾

Though we all wished for a fresh start in 2021, the recent events that took place on Capitol Hill are a stark reminder that the prevalence of 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 in this country is an issue that cannot be swept under the rug. We have seen injustices in the disproportionate treatment of Black and Indigenous people who only ask for something so simple as the protection of their basic human rights.

In advancement of this cause, is continuing the work of creating safe spaces for marginalized groups to explore and recreate in the outdoors. We recognize that Black and Indigenous communities have suffered so much from excessive harm and hatred. Dark as these times may seem, there are heroes among us helping others heal. If you want to contribute, below are three such accounts and their Venmo’s:

1. a counseling service providing wellness and reprieve through African and Indigenous methods. 💵: SoulCareCollective

2. the group behind and an initiative to empower women through mindfulness. 💵: WeHikeToHeal

3. a group for like minded indigenous women to connect to their ancestral land. 💵: Jolie-Varela

If you follow these accounts, please don’t inundate them with questions or triggers.

As 2020 (finally) comes to a close, we reflect on what we’ve learned, what we’re grateful for, and what we want to carry with us into the new year.

Overall, we are grateful for the community, support and love that surrounds us. The bravery and strength we saw this year stemmed from a compassion, empathy and desire to make the world a better place. We are especially grateful to everyone that supported our little company. We have met so many like-minded and creative individuals and are excited to see what 2021 brings.

Building on our work in 2020, here are some ‘resolutions’ that we will continue to practice in 2021:

⁃Protecting this planet and the outdoor spaces we all know and love through eco-conscious efforts

⁃Advancing Black Lives Matter so the momentum does not end at midnight

⁃Supporting Indigenous rights and freedoms

⁃Amplifying the voices of the Transgender Community in crisis

-Continue being thankful for healthcare staff and essential workers

We are stoked to inspire you to plan your future travels in purposeful ways so we can continue epic adventures for all! Happy New Year and stay safe everyone!

Help save our planet so more of us can be like and kayak in Antarctica 🇦🇶

This picture was taken during the 2015/2016 kayaking season, swipe to see the sea ice concentration since the last 5 years alone

Making a conscious effort to be more eco-friendly in 2021 would be a great new year resolution. And even if you don’t do the resolution thing, incorporating sustainability in your daily practices is just a cool thing to do!

Little by little, small changes lead to big impacts

Take a moment today to reflect on the silver linings that 2020 has brought you. What good in your life are you grateful for? 🙏🏼

This year has been filled with challenges, but when we are present and practice gratitude, the world feels brighter and more connected. 🌎

On this Day of Thanks, also acknowledge National Native American Heritage Month by recognizing the Native Tribes who cared for the land that you now call home. ♥️

In Georgia, runoff elections take place 4 weeks after the initial election for local and state, and 8 weeks for federal - this time around its taking place on January 5, 2021.

If you’re a Georgian resident, but not yet registered, the deadline for registering is December 7, 2020.

The in Georgia is for Senate seats and Democrats want to win GOLD to secure a 50-50 tie in the Senate. This could have major impacts for our future legislation as the Vice President would be the tiebreaker.

The Presidential election is not the only vote that matters - make your voice heard in local, state and other federal elections! Tag a Georgian you know below to encourage registration 🗳

REPOST from because she couldn’t have said it more perfectly on why we should all VOTE!
——————————————————
100 environmental and climate rules reversed by our current administration. 100! That’s 100 reasons to vote! The urgency is here and now.

I find it interesting that our civil rights and our environment are both in so much danger right now. Environmental justice IS Social justice y’all! The air we breathe, the water we drink and the land we walk on are at risk. Our administration values a dollar more than our lives. Selling public lands off to developers and oil companies for pennies with no regard for the health and well being of the citizens who call the land home. Specifically Native Americans and low income minority communities are affected but we ALL feel the damages of their actions.

Here in Colorado our senator thinks he can confuse us with his “everyday fella” advertising but we weren’t born yesterday. Senator Gardner, how could you let a whole 100 environmental rules be rolled back without an ounce of pushback to your President. We want clean air to breathe!

We want to keep our parks clean and open to the public. We want more of these beautiful landscapes protected and preserved from the clutches of big oil. Where is your loyalty to this great land and the people who live here! Which has not been an option almost all year! Denver has grown worse with its air quality in the few years I’ve lived here, going from 14th worst to 11th worst air in the country in a short two years. I’m tired. We are tired. If you watched the debate last night then you know that our voice is NEEDED, NECESSARY, and REQUIRED for change!

Did y’all hear 45s response to climate change and the wildfires 🤯. He claimed that he could put out the Portland fire in 30 mins 🥴. Sweeping up sticks will cause less wildfires 🥴. Wheeeeewwwww! We need leaders that believe in science. Please visit the link in my bio where the has listed all 100 rollbacks.
