Something to note for folk travelling to the Highlands in the early spring months.
As the warmer days begin and we start to get some heat during the day, in certain spots Adders may start to emerge from hibernation and bask in sunny rocky spots and crevices.
They tend to avoid people and animals like the plague, however during the early months post hibernation they can be slow, sluggish and are seen a bit more often. Keeping your dogs on a lead and discouraging young children from moving rocks and stones about is always a good idea.
To reassure you I’ve lived in the Highlands for 25 years and this is only the second I’ve seen up close!!
