We are both excited and sad to announce that the cabin is for sale. We will honor all bookings through New Years Day 2023, so if you are booked from now until then, you are not to worry.
Duane and I have dreamed of owning our own farm since we were married, nearly 5 years ago. We are in the process of making that a reality. In that process, we realize that we have to cut down on our other projects to focus on the farm.... hence the cabin being for sale.
Our dream would be to sell it mostly furnished as it is, to someone who would keep it as a vacation rental. We are willing to sell it otherwise as well but will only agree to a plan that honors the rest of this year's bookings.
The cabin was built roughly around the year 2000 and has some lingering unfinished projects. Since we purchased it, we added a shower in the laundry room/half bath, completed the master bathroom (freestanding tub, separate large shower), replaced both furnace/ac units, replaced the water softener and reverse osmosis, and replaced/finished the porch railing. We added a hot tub, which is outdoors and under a roof. We will be finishing the porch ceiling, adding porch lights, and having the cabin washed and restained this summer.
The cabin is set on 17 acres. It's surrounded by wildlife. It has a barn that we haven't focused much of our efforts on. The horse stalls could use a broom but overall are quite nice. There is also a chicken coop near the horse stalls and room to park some machinery. We would have loved to make it our home except the land is better suited for goats than dairy cows. We would likely be willing to negotiate including a steiner mower in the sale.
The neighborhood is quiet and rural. Neighbors have been kind and mostly keep to themselves. Cell service has improved since our initial purchase and the cabin now has Wi-Fi. Local stores include a dollar general as well as a family dollar. There are two gas stations in the area as well as a small hardware that is surprisingly well stocked. There are multiple restaurants in nearby towns as well as a pizza shop. We love the peace and quietness of the area and hate to give up the property. As far as a vacation rental, the cabin is growing in popularity. It is especially attractive to large families, with it being set up as 7 bedrooms and having 4 full bathrooms. It is booked basically every weekend from around May through August/September. We also get a smattering of off season bookings. I definitely see potential for ramping the bookings up, something I didn't do aggressively due to my work schedule and projects that we needed to finish first.

We had the water softener and reverse osmosis system replaced at the cabin today and we're as excited as a kid with chocolate. Here's hoping we can give up our stocks in all things rust remover. :) an interesting fact about the Bergholz/Amsterdam area is that they are residual mining towns. I'm told the water in the area is all high in iron.

Upcoming stays are looking pretty comfy. We added a second furnace/ac unit for the upstairs.

We absolutely love when Duane joins us for cleaning day. The cabin was blessed with a beautiful snowfall this week and Duane and Will got to enjoy it for a while, while my mom, Rachel, and I (Diane) cleaned. All of you with toddlers will recognize the blessing of a happy and entertained toddler when you're trying to get things done. 😄

We added an electric fireplace to the kitchen side of the chimney and I love it. Cozy and warms up the area quickly.

Practical post.
The kitchen is fully stocked. See pictures for details.
The kitchen refrigerator ice machine is not connected/operational.
I don't keep the kitchen pantry stocked. If basics are used up, I don't replace them. I don't keep the kitchen stocked with plastic wrap, tin foil, or freezer bags.

Happy 2022! Thank you so much for a fantastic 2021, looking forward to the next season.
We were excited to add a hot tub last year and replaced the main furnace/ac. We're expecting to update the porch railing this winter and adding porch lighting.
2022 prices will be $500 per weekend night... Friday, Saturday, Sunday... still a 2 night minimum.
$400 weekday night.... Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
If you book 3 nights, the 4th night is free as long as none of the stay is on a Wednesday.

This is a beautiful thing. This company is helping us transition from window units in the common area to central air throughout the cabin. Hopefully they're done by this evening. 😁

Happy December. Thank you so much for making 2020 successful, despite such a unique year. We appreciate your business.

We are increasing cabin rental prices in 2021 to better cover our costs and amount of time that is going into cabin care.

2021 prices are as follows:

$300 per night, Friday, Saturday, Sunday night and nationally recognized holidays.
$250 per night, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday night.
Rental includes the entire cabin and is not dependent on number of guests. Price is per night but we require a 2 NIGHT MINIMUM STAY. There are no additional cleaning fees at this time although that is subject to change (with notice). We would like to avoid extra charges but damage to cabin or contents, leaving the cabin or property excessively unkempt, or moving furniture may result in extra charges.

These prices will be in effect January 1, 2021. We will honor our current price of $200 per night until then. You may reserve your future stay(s) at this price with a 25% non-refundable, non-transferable down-payment.

Don't forget to consider the cabin if you're looking for a relaxing getaway. I keep forgetting to take pictures but it's as peaceful and cozy as ever. The fire ring out back is begging for a cookout and the front porch rockers are the perfect spot for a cup of coffee while you watch the sun come up.

Looking cozy at the cabin. So tempting to spend all our time here.

Take a step back and slow way down at this getaway cabin set on 17 wooded acres. It boasts 7 bedrooms, completely equipped kitchen, 3 full bathrooms and 1 half bathroom, a basement entertainment center, and a wrap around porch equipped with a long row of rockers. 6 queen beds, 4 full beds, 4 single beds, 1 adjustable split king, and 2 bunk beds provide capacity for large groups. The two car garage doubles as a dining area. The cabin's rural setting with patchy cell service creates the perfect setting for groups to enjoy each other without distraction.

This cabin is a diamond in the rough. Currently more rough than diamond, but it's constantly being updated. Think of it as more comfortable than tent camping but with enough flaws to remind you that you're camping and not living it up at the Ritz. Its thoroughly scrubbed carpets show significant enough stains to suggest that its owners likely have it on their list of needed updates. Unfinished trim work and damaged dry wall remind you that very few people live in the perfectly polished world that seems to exist on social media. Rusty water is another nemesis and its owners graciously supply a limited supply of bottled water and beverages to ensure that you needn't dehydrate immediately upon arrival. The porch railing needs significant work-enough said. All in all, it's a pretty sweet property but if you're afraid to get dirty and to live with a little adventure, this place is probably not for you.

There is a small pond which can be set up with a slip and slide. The pond is by no means clean or excessively pleasant.
Space for a campfire, campers, and tents.
No hunting permitted but the cabin is set in a great hunting county. Great place to stay if you have your own hunting land or want to hunt/fish nearby state game lands.
