We are both excited and sad to announce that the cabin is for sale. We will honor all bookings through New Years Day 2023, so if you are booked from now until then, you are not to worry.
Duane and I have dreamed of owning our own farm since we were married, nearly 5 years ago. We are in the process of making that a reality. In that process, we realize that we have to cut down on our other projects to focus on the farm.... hence the cabin being for sale.
Our dream would be to sell it mostly furnished as it is, to someone who would keep it as a vacation rental. We are willing to sell it otherwise as well but will only agree to a plan that honors the rest of this year's bookings.
The cabin was built roughly around the year 2000 and has some lingering unfinished projects. Since we purchased it, we added a shower in the laundry room/half bath, completed the master bathroom (freestanding tub, separate large shower), replaced both furnace/ac units, replaced the water softener and reverse osmosis, and replaced/finished the porch railing. We added a hot tub, which is outdoors and under a roof. We will be finishing the porch ceiling, adding porch lights, and having the cabin washed and restained this summer.
The cabin is set on 17 acres. It's surrounded by wildlife. It has a barn that we haven't focused much of our efforts on. The horse stalls could use a broom but overall are quite nice. There is also a chicken coop near the horse stalls and room to park some machinery. We would have loved to make it our home except the land is better suited for goats than dairy cows. We would likely be willing to negotiate including a steiner mower in the sale.
The neighborhood is quiet and rural. Neighbors have been kind and mostly keep to themselves. Cell service has improved since our initial purchase and the cabin now has Wi-Fi. Local stores include a dollar general as well as a family dollar. There are two gas stations in the area as well as a small hardware that is surprisingly well stocked. There are multiple restaurants in nearby towns as well as a pizza shop. We love the peace and quietness of the area and hate to give up the property. As far as a vacation rental, the cabin is growing in popularity. It is especially attractive to large families, with it being set up as 7 bedrooms and having 4 full bathrooms. It is booked basically every weekend from around May through August/September. We also get a smattering of off season bookings. I definitely see potential for ramping the bookings up, something I didn't do aggressively due to my work schedule and projects that we needed to finish first.
