🌴The Island of St. Martin/St. Maarten🌴
This 2 nation island has 37 beaches and the best food in the Caribbean. Grab a rental 🚙car on arrival, watch out for the crazy motorcycles and go explore! 🗺️Google maps will work offline, but we navigated with the good old paper map I ordered on Amazon. The busiest time to come to this island is November-February, and you will need reservations to most restaurants. The least busy time is summer because it is hurricane season- we did not need reservations to really any restaurant unless we wanted specific waterfront seating.
St. Martin is by far one of the cleanest islands we have visited. 🧹There are even street cleaners, which is rare in the Caribbean. Known as The Friendly Island, the people and visitors are all quite helpful, smiling and make sure you are taken care of. I would feel perfectly safe to bring my kids here by myself.🩷
We stayed in St.Martin (French side), at Grand Case where all of the best French restaurants are located. USD is accepted everywhere, as are Euros and most credit cards. 🛍️The shopping is expensive- even the little boutiques. It often feels like you’re shopping in France. Most everyone speaks French & English so communication was never a problem.
The Dutch side of the island (St. Maarten) is much more Americanized. More people, more shopping.. and we finally found Nick’s 🍺Miller Lite on the way back to the airport🤣 You can cross back and forth without stopping between the two countries. We enjoyed our time on both sides of the island. Next time we would grab our groceries on the Dutch side.
🌴Favorite beaches: Grand Case, Mullet Bay, Bae Rouge… and of course Maho. Day trips are available to Anguilla, St. Barth & Saba! You could easily split your stay between 2 islands.
