The final part of the TAG CAM Symposium explored the important matter of 'wellbeing' and mental health whilst providing a platform to a local charity called Sasha’s Project.

Sasha’s Project is a charity which has been set up in memory of Sasha, a local girl from Fleet near Farnborough, who died by su***de when she was just 20.

Sasha’s struggles were exacerbated by the lack of help available to her when her mental health was poor. When she was feeling suicidal, she needed compassion, support and a safe place to go to, especially during the night. This wasn’t easily accessible.

Sasha’s family feel that having somewhere safe to go would have made the biggest impact on Sasha’s struggles and they want to open a crisis house, open 24/7 with facilities that allow for overnight stays. This is their long-term plan that involves raising substantial funds. In the meantime, the charity runs a drop-in centre until there is sufficient funding.

After a heartfelt presentation on the charity's background and work, followed by a look at TAG's own Peer Support programme talktoapeer.com, the symposium attendees took part in team building exercises which focused on communication and taking one method of communication away - reiterating the message that 'it's okay to not feel okay' and how we can all help and benefit from improving our communication skills.

The images hopefully speak for themselves.

Congratulations to Billy from our Ground Ops team, who recently completed his Level 3 Aviation Specialist Apprenticeship and was promoted to Duty Officer Level 1.

Billy joined TAG in September 2022 as an Operations Apprentice. He has performed various duties, including supporting the Ops team with flight planning and assisting the Charter team with trip setups, all while working on his apprenticeship coursework.

Reflecting on his apprenticeship, Billy wrote, "My apprenticeship has taken me a long way. I have enjoyed, learned, and been inspired by every sector I worked in. Everyone around me at work has happily helped me through my journey, which shows I am part of the team. My recent promotion means that I can carry on learning new things and gain more experience in my passion for aviation. If you want a kick start into aviation, an apprenticeship is the way forward."

He will undoubtedly be an integral part of the team moving forward.

Thanks to our new partnership early this year with Dassault Aviation and CAE, TAG Global Training was selected as the ground school training provider for Dassault Falcon pilots who complete their initial simulator training at CAE Burgess Hill.

Last week, we welcomed crew from Shell Aviation through this partnership. The courses ran for two days and covered aviation first aid, wet drills, and all areas of safety emergency procedures, standard operating procedures, as well as Crew Resource Management.

Our Global Training Manager, Lesley Coleman gave her thoughts on the recent courses provided:

“We are delighted to work with CAE and Dassault on this initiative and look forward to continued collaboration in the New Year.
The crew were all very engaged and highly complementary of our instructor, David Young. This crew were experienced, and some were trainers themselves, so it was a great accolade to have such positive feedback from their experience at TAG Global Training”

Attendees of the courses can return for their annual refresher training or attend the many other courses that TAG Global Training offers.

Today we wish our Swiss clients, industry partners and colleagues a Happy “Fête de l'Escalade”.

This carnival style celebration is a mixture of tradition, humour and official commemoration. Anchored in the hearts of the Genevans, it symbolises the victory of the Genevans over their Savoyard attackers back in 1602 and above all it is synonymous with the independence of Geneva.

For several days, historical parades in 17th century costumes take place along with games, chocolate pots, mulled wine and concerts enliven the historic city and children sing renditions of "Ce q'uè l'ainô" which recounts this episode whilst bringing different generations together.

We wish everyone happy celebrations.

The Farnborough office at TAG Aviation have been collecting gift donations over the past few weeks for Sasha’s Project, a local charity based in Fleet.

Their Christmas Box scheme provides a box of Christmas gifts for any young person (aged 13-25) who is going to be spending Christmas Day on an adolescent mental health ward in Hampshire.

It is our sincere hope that this will go some way to improving the well-being of young people in our local area at a time when it can be needed the most.

Today is an historic date in TAG's aviation heritage as it marks the 15th Anniversary of the TAG Polar Record-breaking flight. TAG TransPolar08 set a new world record for a round-the-world flight over the North and South Poles, in a TAG Global Express starting and finishing in Farnborough Airport, UK.

Aziz Ojjeh, TAG Group Vice President at the time, led the effort and was in the left seat of the Global Express for the first and last legs, whilst the four other pilots each took a turn in the left seat on one leg of the trip. Mr Ojjeh fondly remembers - "We broke the 31-year-old record set by a 747SP 31; our record held for 13 years".

The flight required five refuelling stops and a total elapsed time of 52 hours, 31 minutes and four seconds which equated to an average speed of 822.8 kilometres per hour (444.2 knots).
To comply with FAI record rules, the flight passed over both geographical poles and crossed the equator north-to-south at least 120 degrees longitude from its south-to-north crossing. All the flight planning was organised by TAG Aviation's own Operations team so a great achievement all round.

Last weekend, our team in Hong Kong participated in a “TAG Along” event.

The event involved flight crew members, corporate staff, and their families going for a 6-kilometre hike around the South Lantau Catch Water whilst picking up trash, plastic bottles, and debris.

The event was an opportunity not only to take in some fresh air and contribute to a cleaner environment but to also inspire others to act by helping to leave a positive impact on our planet.

Special thanks to everyone who took part last weekend.

TAG Aviation was delighted to recognise Martin Anglim as he reached his 20-year Long Service Award. Martin, Technical Services Officer, based in the Farnborough Office was presented with a certificate and gift by Jo Goodall, European CEO as colleagues gathered to celebrate.

Martin had the following to say; “As I reflect on my 20-year long service, I can honestly say that not only has the time flown by, but I have the most fondest of memories. I would like to thank all my friends and colleagues for their support, and indeed the laughter each day. I now go into my 21st year at TAG with the same optimism and happiness"

TAG would like to congratulate Martin for achieving this incredible milestone.

The latest instalment of the Supermarine S.5 Seaplane - A Legend Reborn story - the team is about to start covering the wings and ailerons in a material called Ceconite. This is a modern take on the original which was covered in Medapolin, a lightweight Irish linen which probably had a life of ten years or less. The modern day ceconite is stronger, lighter and longer lasting.
