Just returned from an incredible trip to the capital city of southern Ethiopia, Hawassa, where I had the privilege of meeting the Sidama people. 🌟 Celebrating Epiphany in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia! 🌟

I had the most incredible experience celebrating Epiphany in the clean, green, and highly recommended city of Bahir Dar. One of the cultural traditions that captivated me was the vibrant and colorful procession known as the Timket.

During Timket, thousands of people gather to witness the reenactment of the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River. The atmosphere is filled with songs, prayers, and joyful celebrations. Priests, dressed in traditional white robes, carry replicas of the Ark of the Covenant and parade them through the streets. The locals, dressed in their finest traditional attire, follow along, singing hymns and carrying lit candles. It is a truly mesmerizing sight!

The festivities continue as the procession reaches the shores of Lake Tana. Here, a special ritual takes place where the water is blessed by the priests. In a moment of great anticipation, the faithful plunge into the holy water, symbolizing the renewal of their faith and the washing away of sins.

Aside from the captivating Timket celebrations, Bahir Dar is a true gem. The city is known for its stunning landscapes, with lush greenery and beautiful palm trees lining its streets. The clean and well-maintained surroundings add to the charm of this remarkable place.
