The color of the day is orange. Here are some pretty flowers for you so enjoy, the falls and out banana grove. Also a pretty orange butterfly trying to land on Bella’s nose. Now orange you glad you tuned in!

We had a beautiful sunrise today. Found we have a new pineapple and a papaya growing too. Our oranges are massive, can’t wait for them to ripen.
Marty made salsa a couple days ago with tomatoes, cilantro, onions, jalapeños and lime all from our garden.
We went to visit a gentleman this morning and he sent us home with tons of flower seeds and about 20 Cana Lilies in different colors. The people here are so generous. We are truly blessed.

It’s hard to believe we have been here in Costa Rica for 1 year. Time seems to go by just as fast here.
A lot has changed, we have kept busy with small reno projects around the house and yard. We eat healthier and enjoy the outdoors. We enjoy the birds, flowers, friends and good fruit. It’s fun to see and enjoy the fruits of your labour.
We eat outdoors often and this table has seen many domino games and many, many cups of good Costa Rican coffee.
Bella, our rescue dog is a true Tico! She loves to eat fruit, except for pineapple. Mardy is teaching her to be a lap dog😂.
We have loved having friends and family come to visit. We have a casita with 2 double beds and a private bath available. We are looking forward to our next guests.

It’s been a few days since I posted, we have been super busy with guests and learning to live with our new dog. She has been amazing and lots of fun.
A few new flowers to show you and some beautiful butterflies.
Rainy season has been slow in coming, but we did get rain today. We are hoping for more as it has been quite dry.

Exciting news to share with you all. We have adopted a rescue dog. We have named her Bella. She is beautiful, a little shy right now, but I’m sure with lots of love and treats she will be just fine!

Well I tried something new yesterday. I already posted about using the white of the watermelon rind to make salsa.
Now I used it to make “Apple” crisp. Chopped it quite small, cooked it for a bit on the stovetop with a little apple juice, sugar and cinnamon, then baked it with a rolled oats topping. It turned out pretty good. You would never guess it’s watermelon. Just trying to reduce our waste. 😊

We had a little visitor in the house today. Mardy was able to catch and let go outside.
I have 1 ripe lemon on my new tree and the bird of paradise is almost finishing opening. It seem like it takes a long time.

I don’t know the name of this plant but it is so pretty. The unusual buds opened into these pretty little flowers.
We have had so many plants, shrubs and trees gifted to us. The Tico people are so generous and willing to share. Another gift was this beautiful pink plant. What an awesome shot of color in the garden.

These bells are massive and so pretty. It just started to open today. A few other flowers and my cocoa pods are getting bigger too. So excited to be able to make my own chocolate! 😊. We have approximately 120 pineapples planted. 2 types, Hawaiian and Nicaraguan. Hmmm. Love pineapple.

We had new roses in the garden this morning. And the big peach colored flower. I don’t know the name of it but if is so gorgeous. I saw these beautiful trees on the highway into town this morning so had to stop a get a picture.

A little walk around the property this morning. The rainy season has begun and we see new growth every day. It’s so exciting.

We planted 2 of these plants yesterday. I can’t wait to have these beauties in my own yard.
This Lobster claw was gifted to us for decor so I mixed it in with some other trimmings. The same gentleman gave us 2 plants for our yard. They do grow to be pretty massive do we planted them up on the hill.

Food & flowers.
Gerardo brought us a bundle of plantains, they are now ripe and I have sliced and frozen them for later use. I dip them in coconut oil and cinnamon and cook in the air fryer.
We tried dragon fruit for the first time. Love the stunning color of it, can’t say I love the fruit itself.
More flowers: other colors besides purple!

After a little walk around the garden I came to the realization that purple may be may favorite flower color. (My momma’s influence on me)

Today was an eventful day. We had a very tall tree we needed to cut part way down. These guys are amazing with the machete.

After a yummy supper hubby made last night we had a busy day @ Casa Beamo.
After weeding, planting and watering we picked Lemon Mandarinas, limes, jalapeños, mint and cilantro. Squeezed lemon mandarins to make ice cubes to go with Coca Cola. Made limeade with mint, watermelon and pineapple salsa as well as pico de gallo salsa.

Another exciting day at Casa Beamo.
Today while in town Mardy found a great Cocoa tree for me. We have been looking for awhile. Excited to be able to grow and process our own chocolate.
New colors in the flower garden and the side hill is filling in nicely.
A couple of days ago the young man who sells fish and shrimp came by with beautiful shrimp for sale. So tonight we will have shrimp tacos.
I made salsa to go with our tacos. From our garden: pineapple core, cilantro, jalapeños and lime. Watermelon rind, onions and apple cider vinegar from the store.
Imagine my surprise when I cut open that beautiful pineapple we videoed the other day to find it white inside. It is a Monte Lirio white pineapple. It has a little milder flavour, more acidic and less fiber than the Hawaiian pineapples.
Lastly apple crisp made from Manzana de Auga apples from our tree.
Whew! Who said retirement was quiet and relaxing. Lol!

Another busy week here at Casa Beamo.
Gerardo always finds a way to get it done. After he arrived with the wheelbarrow on his bike he said he looked like a turtle. Lol!
A beautiful purple flower popped open today, it looks like velvet.
Trimming the mango tree and a couple deliveries from the neighbours. Javier brought plantains, Amable brought Chyote, Gerardo brought coconuts and pineapple. Fresh cukes and yucca from the garden.
We saw Aracaris and some new birds too, Ruddy ground dove and Smooth-billed Ani.

Lots to see this morning in the gardens. New roses, orange cosmos, sour sop is getting big, tomatoes are starting and the water apples are getting ripe.

Everyday is different! Yesterday for the first time we saw a Bay-headed Tanager. We were having lunch under the mango tree when I looked up to see this beauty.

It’s an exciting day at Casa Beamo. Today we harvested the first pineapple from our garden. Our apples are starting to grow big and turn red, we have many on the tree. We are looking forward to making fresh apple sauce and juice.

We have started into the rainy season and it’s crazy how fast things grow here. We harvested our first batch of yucca today, the cukes are growing and we saw our first watermelon today.
Enjoyed our first mango, checked out how the oranges are coming along and took in the beautiful fragrance from the orange blossoms and my new plumeria tree.

I kept a few of the trimmings from the pruning today and made a little bouquet for the front porch. Sunrise was beautiful too!

I’m so excited about the beautiful purple flower that opened in the garden today. It is gorgeous and I planted some seeds our friend Rosa gave us that are similar.
Stunning roses and plants we found in the city today have already been planted too.
Our dehydrated pineapple turned out awesome and we just started another batch of banana chips.
Such a blessing to have so much fresh fruit.

We had a few trees removed a couple weeks ago. It’s amazing to see what they can do with a machete. Timber!!!!!
