Caught in a rare moment of stillness, this kingfisher's striking blue plumage stands out against the soft, natural backdrop of Lake Macquarie, NSW. Capturing such detail and colour is always a rewarding challenge, and I'm delighted to show the result to you all.

For those who have a keen interest in the mysterious world of “Cryptid Wildlife.” My good friend Naturalist, Author, Ecologist and Radio Host for ABC North Coast Gary Opit who was featured on the long serving Animal Planet TV Show Finding Bigfoot as pictured here, he will be interviewed Tomorrow night on ABC Sydney. There may be insufficient evidence at this stage however if it is a case of mistaken identity in the Great Dividing Range then what could be the answer to the misidentification in Australia especially when nearly all Australians regularly encounter Macropods such as Kangaroos and Wallabies. Australian Cryptozoology Gary Opit

At 10:00 pm on Thursday night 11th January 2024, ABC journalist Dom Knight, on his ‘Nightlife’ programme on ABC Radio Sydney, will be interviewing me on Yowies and the other mystery animals that people have described encountering, received during my 26 years of weekly wildlife identification broadcasts on ABC North Coast NSW radio, 94.5FM. Dom will be asking me the following questions: do you personally believe that Yowies exist, the number of Yowie encounters you've come across, the origins of the Yowie, have there been sound recordings capturing the Yowie and how instrumental has this audio been in confirming the existence of the Yowie? We have audio of a suspected sound of a Yowie from Newnes, New South Wales in April 2019. What can you tell us about this audio? Have you noticed any patterns or behaviours associated with these creatures? Do they tend to avoid human contact or are there instances of curious behaviour? Beyond Yowies, what other creatures have been reported or supposedly spotted across Australia in your experiences as a creature enthusiast? How do you handle scepticism and criticism from those who may doubt the existence of Yowies? The Finding Bigfoot film team flew over from the USA to interview me, dressed in blue overalls, and other researchers into the astounding Australian Bigfoot. Once the Nightlife interview has gone to air the Yowie interview can be heard here at https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/nightlife/nightlife/

Happy Fathers Day to all of the Dads out there.

Happy Father’s Day from AWC! In honour of all dads, soon-to-be dads, and dad figures, let us introduce to you one of Australia’s most fantastic fathers: the Emu!

Male Emus are one of the animal kingdom's most dutiful dads. Unlike most bird species, they are solely responsible for egg incubation, having been abandoned by the female (after laying up to 15 eggs in the nest HE built). For up to 55 days, he'll sit and guard his eggs - hardly eating, drinking, or even leaving the nest for a toilet break.

Once the chicks emerge, Emu dads take solo parenting to the next level - nurturing and raising their chicks and teaching them to forage and survive until they are about 6 months old.

: Female Emus breed with multiple partners, and lay eggs in multiple nests, so some of the chicks the male has so carefully watched over might not even be his own (making him an awesome stepdad too!).
