One of my favourite museums in Paris, France. If you dont have time to do ' the Big Ones' please make time to visit the Cluny.

Roi de France ou roi biblique ? 🤴

Thinking of checking out the wineries in and around Bordeaux? Don't forget the Classics!
Plan to visit the Médoc peninsula west of Bordeaux and the glorious village of Saint Émilion to the north east, too.

Just let me say...
Many folks want to by-pass the Booking Platforms when renting a holiday home in favour of dealing directly with the owners (where they can). This can be for many reasons, but the most common is that the Platforms charge fees (to both guests and owners), which guests generally tend to think are an imposition and add hugely to the cost of their vacation.

We are very pro-platform, as Holiday Home owners.

There have been many instances where having a 3rd party (Platform) involved in negotiations has been positive from both the Owners and Guests points of view.
This is what some of those fees facilitate.

We read many sad stories of people who have booked directly with the owners and find that the property in question is not what was promised, and facilities were lacking what was important to the enjoyment of the guests, while there.
They also had no guarantees in regard to cancellations/return of fees/deposits paid. There is no 3rd party adjudication when it comes to problems, and they are left to deal with owners who dont return calls, disappear off the face of the earth...with guests money, et al.
There are also plenty of scams!
One recent posting on FB detailed how the young woman booked with what she thought was a legitimate rental agency in the town of choice, did a WhatsApp call with the person before she paid the money, but lost almost 800 euros when she checked with the agency. They said they had no booking in her name and nobody with the name of the person she had the call with.
No matter how careful you are when dealing with individual 'owners' there is still a chance that this is a scam.

We want our guests to have as much assurance as possible when booking with us, but much prefer that they book through one of the platforms we are listed on so that there is never ANY question about legitimacy for any of our three houses.

Owners have to jump through many legal hoops when listing their properties on the Platforms, and we must be registered with our local Tax Office, and be a registered business.

When you book through one of the Platforms, you have guarantees for both the Owners and the Guests, that ensure that any complaint by one or both parties are fairly dealt with, refunds are paid etc.
There is also insurance for owners and guests should this be required.

As always, it is wise for guests to buy Travel Insurance before setting out on their holidays. Yes, it's an additional expense, but you could also be well out of pocket should an emergency arise, or damage to your personal property or the loss of same should occur, without insurance.

Angouleme, the Capital of the Charente, is often overlooked as a Destination. The Comics Capital of France, La Bande Desinée (comic strip), is illustrated everywhere in this city and especially in the Historic Centre of town. The Visitor's Centre in the Historic Town Hall (Hotel de Ville) is worth a visit and you can book your walking tours, Tour of the Treasures of Angouleme and maps to discover the beautiful illustrations on the historic buildings et al. Yes, someone there will speak English, if necessary.
We did a short tiki-tour of the inner city when we went there for lunch last week.
