The ninth day of dashain is called Mahanavami, "the great ninth day". This is the last day of Navaratri. Ceremonies and rituals reach the peak on this day.

The eighth day of Vijayadashami is called Maha Asthami. Durga Bhawani and Kali Mata (different names and incarnations) are worshipped with very high dedication. People sacrifice animals to Goddess.

Some Hindu devotees observe fasting in Asthami. The night of Astahmi is called “Kal Ratri” (the dark night). Hundreds of goats, sheep and buffaloes are sacrificed on Kali’s temples and households. The sacrifice continues till dawn and even till dusk.

Fulpati is the seventh day of Dashain. There is a tradition in Nepal to bring nine types of Fulpati into homes on the seventh day of Navaratri. It is believed that Fulpati represents nine Goddess and they brings health, wealth and prosperity to the homes. The tradition started during the period of King Prithvi Narayan Shah. The main function was held at Hanuman Dhoka in Kathmandu, where Fulpati was brought to Dashainghar in a traditional procession with Vedic rituals in the morning.

On the day of Ghatasthapana, people worship with Diyo (an oil-fed lamp) and Kalas (auspicious jar) lord Ganesha in accordance with Vedic rituals and sow maize and barley seeds in a jar filled with soil and cow dung for germination of the auspicious Jamara (barley shoots). As the commencement of a 15-day Dashain Festival period. The first day of Bada Dashain, the greatest festival of Nepalis. The day also marks the beginning of the nine-day long Navratra.
