I don't think I've ever been more excited to see a driveway full of contractor vans! BIG changes are in the works at The Mae, sister property to thedavis.ssi. When we initially purchased this property, it was fully furnished with a tenant in place. I've been fortunate to have back-to-back mid-term tenants since purchasing this property, but I've been waiting patiently for the chance to renovate it as soon as I had the opportunity. As soon as I received word that our most recent tenant's detail was ending sooner than anticipated, I jumped at the chance to roll out my renovation plan. Contractor's are working full speed alongside myself and my guest experience team to relaunch The Mae in the coming weeks. Our second full slow day home was ripe with memory making. After another leisurely morning at home, we ventured out for the afternoon to wander through the Mistletoe Market in the Pier Village. This is a favorite year round activity of ours on the weekends, and if you’ve never made a point to meander through any of the weekend markets you’re missing out! They all vary a little bit but they never disappoint. And this one was particularly meaningful because I unexpectedly stumbled upon the stall of one of the most influential people in my childhood, my old neighbor and French tutor now turned artist, Emily Fendig. What a joy it was to introduce my children to her, soak up her sunshine, and take home a few of her pieces to The Davis and eventually back to Arizona where I can see them every day. They’re still talking about the nicest woman they’ve ever met in their lives, and they’re right. She’s pure joy! :)

After the market we explored the village, walked along the pier, visited the Lighthouse, hopped along the Johnson rocks, and searched for shells and hermit crabs. And again, ran into lifelong friends because that’s how our tiny island rolls. You see framily everywhere. :)

We rounded out the evening by visiting Holly Jolly Jekyll, which was absolutely beautiful. How could it not be with over a million twinkling lights cast over the historic district among 350 displays, complete with horse drawn carriages? It can’t be beat. If you’re visiting between Thanksgiving and New Years, make sure you include this adventure!

meant spending hours upon hours outdoors, and one of my favorite outdoor memories was crabbing off the pier with my family, and walking hand in hand with my grandfather to pick out a scoop of ice cream from Cliftons afterward (IYKYK). We would spend what felt like all day at the pier tying raw chicken and weights to our traps, and moving them back and forth to either side of their pier, and towards/away from the shore trying to find the perfect spot. I always loved watching the crowds of travelers who came to explore the pier, and chatting them up (just like my mom… I’ve never met a stranger lol).

Now any trip home with our minions includes mandatory sunrise crabbing. Our son is absolutely obsessed with it and can spout off any number of facts about crabs and crabbing, which he loves sharing with the good folks at when we stop in for supplies (traps, weights, lines, buckets, tongs, you name it). He loves it so much he woke up before sunrise twice this trip so he could find the perfect spot, reel every person who stepped onto the pier into his adventure (just like his mom… he’s never met a stranger lol), and bring home enough fresh crab to share for lunch.

If you’re headed to the Golden Isles, try your hand at crabbing. You may just find a new favorite pastime.🦀

This past week I flew home to Georgia with all my minions in tow and spent 8 nights at .ssi doing ALL the holiday things, with a coastal flare. If you’re looking for ideas, I’ll be sharing each day’s adventures separately, so be sure to check back regularly!

Because we keep our crew on AZ time, we reserved our mornings for slow… running under oak canopies, eating lazy breakfasts at home, spinning until we were dizzy on the nest swing, and exploring all the nature in our back yard (kids love collecting acorns, who knew).

We spent our first full day, after we enjoyed our slow morning, strolling through Redfern Village and noshing on shrimp baskets and fried green tomatoes at , browsing seasonal books at , exploring all the rooms at and selecting which pies we wanted for the week (chicken pot pie and buttermilk are always classic choices), watching the annual Christmas Parade in Historic Downtown Brunswick, and walking to the most delicious Thai at afterward. We had a few other adventures planned but I always follow the lead of the herd and it’s always better to go slow than rush and not be able to soak up every last bit of magic that is the Golden Isles during the holidays!

Have you ever heard of The Island Players?

“For over 67 years, The Island Players have been part of the fabric of Saint Simons and the Golden Isles, providing quality, amateur theatrical entertainment, workshops on theater operations, and support for continuing education in the performing arts. The Players provide local folks with the opportunity to try their hand at performing, singing and stagecraft.”

As a child I used to love attending plays at The Island Players. For starters, one of my favorite elementary teachers directed the plays at that time, and secondly, I loved watching my friends from various schools and churches come together to perform as one community. And now as an adult, I’m beyond thrilled to introduce my children to them for the first time during our upcoming visit for their production of A Charlie Brown Christmas.

"I spent one week every summer at Saint Simons in one way or another when I was growing up. I absolutely love it there! Once you fall in love with that sweet little island, it never turns you loose. You just keep on wanting to go back! That being said, I recently had the opportunity to revisit my memories when I visited with the host, Susan, and her precious family as she was completing her dream of fixing up a rental place there. I am totally amazed at how spacious, yet cozy, The Davis is!! And Susan has used her special decorative skills to make it beautiful, stylish, and yet comfortable and "homey!" Holiday season on the island has always been one of my favorite times of year, from when I was a child living on the island, as a college student coming home for the holidays, and now as an adult returning home with my children. I always loved Thanksgiving Eve (yes, it's a thing) and Christmas Eve with our family, church friends, and childhood framily who all came together to share our favorite foods and belly laughs recanting memories from celebrations past.

This year we have a guests who have booked The Davis for Thanksgiving week, which absolutely thrills me to think of the prospect of all of the memories that will be made there. Whether they decide to make their entire meal utilizing our well-equipped kitchen, take advantage of our concierge services and reserve an in-home chef, pick up prepared meals from one of our favorite restaurants, or decide to dine in at a select few amazing restaurants open Thanksgiving Day... I have no doubt that they will make memories of a lifetime. Nothing quite beats the temperate weather of the Golden Isles during the holidays, coupled with the beauty of our area, the friendly locals, the incredible food, and being surrounded by your loved ones. 🙂

Some of my favorite snippets of memories of was boating with family friends through the Marshes of Glynn and out into the open waters of the Intracoastal Waterway.

The feel of steadying myself from the movement under my bare feet. The smell of the salt water marshes and even the open water. The warmth of the sun while I stood at the edge with my eyes closed. The feel of the wind as it wrapped around me. The hours spent watching manatee play around the docks, bottlenose dolphins play in our wake, alligators sunning themselves on the banks, otters swimming across the rivers, and countless species of birds dotting the marshes… herons, egrets, spoonbills, bitterns, ospreys, bald eagles, hawks, and more. The squeals of laughter as we learned to ski and tube. Unpacking picnics to share with everyone. Cruising down to Fernandina for dinner.

I don’t know that I’ll ever loose those memories. They’re still just as clear as the day they happened. And I will forever be grateful for how they shaped my love of preserving nature, my love of our beautiful Golden Isles, trying new things, and sharing experiences with those I love. 💕
