One of the biggest mistakes that couples make when planning a destination wedding is underestimating the logistics. Not only are you planning a wedding in a different country, you're also planning a major group vacation. Get a head start on your logistical plan with these tips:

Hire a destination wedding planner and/or travel agent. You don't have to plan alone and most of the time this service comes at a very minimal price and is well worth the investment. Working with a professional will save you time and money because they've navigated the waters before and offer expert guidance- saving you tons of time on research and also working as a point of contact for your guests.

Consider the time of year for your wedding and what that will look like for the cost of travel. Also consider whether or not the date is during storm season and whether or not you'd like to take that chance.

Select your wedding location with a few things in mind: their selection of wedding venues and the capacity of their locations, the rain plan, cost of wedding packages and upgrades and the resort's external vendor policies. Also consider the overall resort experience: quality of food, service, room comfortability, activities and night life.

Go with a contracted room block. One thing to know about wedding resorts is that they book up quickly. The worst mistake you can make is to not reserve the rooms you'll need for your guests. Room blocks also allow you to lock in specific rates for the rooms you've reserved, protecting you and your guests from price increases down the line!

Think about your overall budget and design your wedding-week itinerary based on that budget. Think of everything from your rehearsal dinner, welcome reception, wedding day and any group excursions you may want to plan!

Consider the resort's distance from the airport and what transportation options are available to your guests.
