Visit Lecale

Visit Lecale A page for the promotion of attractions within the ancient barony of Lecale, an Area of Outstanding

Lecale is an ancient barony, once a peninsula, in County Down, Northern Ireland. Famous as the birthplace of Patrician heritage, it boasts the landing place, first church, and final resting place of Patrick, Ireland's patron saint. Much of Lecale was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1967, and merged with Strangford AONB in 2010. There is much to do and see with Lecale for

visitor and locals alike.

*Please note this page is for the promotion of tourism within the area of Lecale; it is not a tour operator or similar business.

Our crew have been busy the past week building the tipis again at our lakeside venue. The anticipation of a new season in the woods is always exciting! 🌳

Great news!

📢 We are delighted to announce that the Mourne Gullion Strangford aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark (aUGG) has been recommended by the Global Geopark Council to achieve full status at the UNESCO Executive Board meeting in Paris in May.

The designation will recognise the area as a place with internationally important geological heritage of which there is no shortage, particularly in the district’s three AONBs. Its principal focus will be to use heritage to support the area's sustainable economic development – primarily through sustainable tourism.
