Final notes on my October trip: my last hotel at the end of October was Queen's Hotel in Ennis. It was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. First of all, after having to get the maintenance guy find me a TV remote that worked, I found there was no kettle! Horrors! Sometimes they put it in a cabinet. But there was none! The next awful thing was no hot water. I had to shower and wash my hair in cold water. The k**b in the shower was rust combined with disintegrating white plastic which had the appearance of time spent in the toilet.

Leaving Galway City, I got into a taxi which was going to take me to the bus station. But he offered to drive me all the way to Ennis for 100 Euros. I said, I'll take it! I was tired and didn't want to take a bus. He was a great driver. It turns out that he drives tour groups, small groups of people around Ireland.

It was suggested to me several times that I ought to lead a small tour of women of a 'certain age' to follow my journey with me as I take it again. If there are any mature women who would like to do a tour of a region of Ireland, please let me know!

Sitting in the Merchant's cafe listening to Claire de Lune. As you can see it's not very busy. But around the corner at O'Connell's it is hopping full on a late Thursday afternoon. I was in talking with a couple who want to get together in a couple of days. Traveling solo you really get to know people. Even at my advanced age!

I waited for the sun to come out to have a walk around Eyre Square then I got a long block away and the sky opened up and poured down on me, drenching my hair and clothes. I found refuge in a pub restaurant the Skeffingon Arms. Made my way around and through Eyre Square. Tomorrow I catch the Hop on Hop off Galway City tour. Went to Durty Nellie's in Bunratty. It certainly is an ancient building. I don't have the stamina to stay up for the music. Wonderful to see all the police badges and fire department t-shirt from America. So many of Ireland's son's went to be police and firefighter s like my Dad and grandfather.

I will be traveling to Ireland in October. I have decided to fly into Shannon airport on the west coast of Ireland. I love Western Ireland. I will stay at a nearby hotel, Treacy's Oakwood Shannon for a few days to get through jet lag. Then I will stay at Bunratty Castle Hotel, right across from Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. Also across from Dirty Nellie's, a 400 year old pub that has traditional Irish music every day.
