🏂🏿Today was a snow day in Brora! ⛄
The school was closed and some folk used that opportunity to have lots of fun sledging down the old clay pit by the Heritage Centre. Our staff joined in too!
A look back at the Clyne School Log book showed this week was often impacted by snow but also highlighted that the School used to be closed for a New Year holiday the first few weeks of January. Here’s a few snippets.
1887 - Another week of severe weather, so much so that locomotion was near to impossible by reason of the roads being covered with ice.
1891 - Many of the scholars are kept at home to go messages in preparation for the Old New Year's Day on Monday.
1892 Owing to a severe snow storm, the school only met four times.
1895 Owing to the exceptionally stormy nature of the weather, only 11 pupils turned up.
1897 - School closed for New Year Holidays from 31st Dec to 17th Jan.
1899 - The school was reopened on the 16th after the New Year vacation. The attendance has been very poor for the last three days, owing to the inclement character of the weather.
