As you walk around the street of Japan, you may notice that there are a lot of well-designed manhole covers.
It is said that Naha city was the first to have started designing the manhole cover!
You will find these colorful cover by walking on the street in Tsuboya area. The tree nymph butterfly, bougainvillea, giant Shi-sa... all of these represent city of Naha!

☆EXPLORE THE SHURIJO CASTLE PARK☆
Shurijo Castle is one of the popular sightseeing spot in Okinawa🌺
You can enjoy the park strolling around by yourself, but it'll be more enjoyable to walk with a local guide!😄🎵

Let me introduce newly reconstructed the Makishi Public Market!
The market has been under construction since 2019, and finally reopened on March 19th, 2023.
Inside the market, you will find that it is built in atrium style, which creates an open atmosphere.
1st floor is a grocery area. There, you can see a lot of ingredients that are unique to Okinawa!
Naha Walking Tours " Course C: Kokusai Dori Market" is reopened booking as well.
Let's go to check out the new market with our guide!

☆WHAT YOU CAN SEE NOW☆
When you visit the Shurijo Castle, you will notice that there are a lot of gates to walk through on the way to the main hall.
"Hoshin-mon", one of the gates, is just before the main hall of Shurijo Castle.
Before the fire on 2019, visitors could see the main hall from the Hoshin-mon, however, there now is a lumber storage.
You might feel that it is disappointing, but don't worry 😉
You can see a graphic art of the view from the Hoshin-mon on a wall of the storage while the main hall is under reconstruction 🤩✨
We are looking forward to seeing the splendid main hall like this painting! 😊
The completion of the main hall is said to be in 2026. Now is the only time you can see how they fix and restore the main hall 👀

☆HOW THEY MAINTAIN THE KILN☆
"Agari nu kiln" is one of the main climbing kiln in Tsuboya, and it is designated as a National important cultural property 😮✨
In order to maintain this old kiln, a team of Agari nu kiln preservation society took 4days to firm up the kiln, between Jan 17 and Jan20.
How do you think they did that? 😏
They built a fire inside the kiln to evaporate the moisture that the clay of the kiln has absorbed for years 🔥💧🔥
This is how they preserve the kiln in good condition 👏
This time, 4 potters teamed up in pairs and kept watch the fire for 3 days and 3 nights by turns.🌞🌛
Usually, when they work for maintenance, observation is not allowed to public. However this time, they made an exception for us to take pictures!
We appreciate all the staff of Agari nu kiln preservation society and Tsuboya Pottery Museum for the cooperation 🥰
☆TSUBOYA, THE POTTERY STREET OF OKINAWA☆
Tsuboya is a part of Naha city where you can find Okinawan pottery, called Yachi-mun.
When you visit this area, you will see lots of pottery Shi-sa lions everywhere.
As you stroll around, you may feel the time passes slowly and the nostalgic and tasteful scenery comes into your sight🥰
During the Course B "Tsuboya Pottery Street", our guide will lead you to the narrow path, that remains for a long time and brings back the era of Ryukyu Kingdom.
After finishing the course, we recommend you to look for your favorite pottery or stop by to relax at a coffee shop where they serve you with Yachi-mun tableware 😉☕
☆THE REOPENING IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!☆
The Makishi Public Market has been under the construction due to its rebuilding since 2019👷🔨🚧
The new building had been covered with construction fence screens, but it's now removed to reveal its outer walls. They are currently working on finishing the exterior and the interior design. After that, the new Makishi Public Market will finally be open soon!😆
