After moving on from our farm stay we had a quick stop over in Jerramungup before arriving in Albany. Before Paula and Tim arrived at the house, Rob and I try and set the van up so we can chill out when they arrive, only to experience a comedy of errors….. the van gets bogged on the property, the jockey wheel is not useable, the van leg stabiliser is stuck and I trap my finger in the washing line….. not a great start to show off to our friends our new way of life….

But, nothing can dampen your mood when you’re seeing friends, it really is the absolute best feeling in the world. 4 years is along time to not see them but the kids have a playmate each and they hit it off.

Day 1 with the Venter’s. Trouble shoot the knackered jockey wheel. Set van up. Kids argue about sleeping in the beds in the house.

Day 2: Rob’s birthday. Probably a bit underwhelming as we have very little planned and need to stay local as we only have 1 car so we head to Cosy Beach. Perfect sized body boarding waves and sandcastle making sand! Return to find the leg of our sun canopy is knackered. A unsuccessful fishing trip before dinner. Then Kids argue about which beds in the house to sleep in.

Day 3. Rob and I head into Albany to sort out the jockey wheel, to return and realise we haven’t sorted out the jockey wheel. A large tree stump later and the car is unhitched so we can at least go out without needing multiple car trips. More beautiful beaches visited in the national parks… Misery beach in Torindip national park was particularly fabulous. Visit to some blowholes, which although wasn’t spraying out too much water, scared the kids with how loud they were. Then onto the Gap and the natural bridge. Amazing.
Last stop of the day, fish and chips on Middleton Beach. before we head home for the kids to argue about which beds they are sleeping in! 😩

Day 4: The morning Orb session at Denmark Thrills adventure park was a lot of fun. Jimmy, Sam and Elsie in 1 orb, Harriet, Charlie and I in another. Poor Charlie looked terrified but as soon as we stopped, he was desperate to do it again! A lovely walk through Harewood Forest before Lunch at the good Food factory followed by soccer-golf and ice cream. But pesky flies ruined it a little.
it’s bloody cold in Albany, so although we went to more incredible beaches, it’s not the weather to sit and play/swim for hours and hours… so a quick stop at Green Pool beach and then lots of scrambling across the Elephant Rocks, (named so because the rocks look like a herd of Elephants…)
Then back to the house for…….. the kids to all agree on where they are sleeping, and for them to perform the best talent show I’ve seen in a long time! So cute!

Also my first snake encounter… God I hope it’s my last!

12/1/23
Today we did some barefoot rock climbing (not recommended but we forgot our shoes)and conquered the Frenchman’s Peak in the heart of Le Grand National park… the kids were amazing, and flew up it…. And then Harriet realised she had a fear of heights when she got to the top and looked down. After a picnic lunch in the caves at the top and Charlie scrambling to catch Lizards, It was an emotional (and painful) climb down!

Obviously the day couldn’t be completed without another trip to a couple of stunning beaches..This time Hellfire Bay and Lucky Bay. We weren’t lucky enough to see the Kangaroos that normally roam the beach, but again, the colours were just totally unreal. Rob took some cool shots with the drone.

Back to our farm stay to have a chat to our very lovely host who gave us some wonderful insights into how snakes behave…. And to be wary of the death Adder… erm…. What now??? Finding one is not on my to do list. Why does everything here need the ability to kill you.
