La Feria de Malaga.

The annual Malaga city fair is an exuberant street party dating back 500 years ago when the Catholic kings reconquered Malaga back from the Moors in 1487. It traditionally runs for 10 days over the third week in August.

Think locals in dotted dresses dancing in the streets of Malaga old town during the day and out on the recinto ferial all night, think tapas and vino dulce, horse parades and concerts.

The picture is from a few years back when the kids were still excited to dress the traditional way.
No feria for us this year as we are on a van road trip across Europe

We believe in meals together as a family, moments of sharing with loved ones and enjoying each others' company. So the outdoor dining table couldn't be big enough to seat everyone joining in.

Coming from a culture of built-in benches I had to have one in our holiday home, too. Unable to find the perfect one for this space we rolled up our sleeves and designed and built it ourselves by recycling the beams and wooden plates from the built.

These vintage leather sofas have history. They were salvaged by our late uncle Tate from a government building close to the Teatro Romano in Malaga old town two decades ago where they had been receiving government officials in the reception room for decades. After many years in storage we brought them back to life, carefully fixed and polished them and are now totally fond of them.
Quintessentially shabby chic.

If you are into street art, too, then Malaga is your bet displaying a fantastic outdoor art gallery including enormous pieces of graffiti and mural art. For the highest concentration head to Soho or the Lagunillas neighbourhood.
