Gudi Padwa is a spring festival marking the start of the lunisolar new year for Marathi and Konkani Hindus.
It is celebrated in and around Maharashtra, Goa & Damaon at the start of Chaitra, the first month of the lunisolar Hindu calendar. The festival is characterised by colourful floor decorations called rangoli, a special gudi dvaja; which is a saari or dhoti or other piece of cloth garlanded with flowers, mango & neem leaves; a sugar crystal garland called gathi, topped with upturned silver or copper vessels. Celebration also includes street gathering, dancing & festive foods.
The Hindu calendar is lunisolar but most festival dates are specified using the lunar portion of the calendar. A lunar day is uniquely identified by three calendar elements: māsa (lunar month), pakṣa (lunar fortnight) and tithi (lunar day).
Furthermore, when specifying the masa, one of two traditions are applicable, viz. amānta / pūrṇimānta. If a festival falls in the waning phase of the moon, these two traditions identify the same lunar day as falling in two different (but successive) masa.

In Maharashtra, the first day of the bright phase of the moon is called gudhi paadwaa(Marathi: गुढी पाडवा), pādvo (Konkani: पाडयो; Kannada: ಪಾಡ್ಯ; Telugu: పాడ్యమి, paadyami). Konkani Hindus variously refer to the day as sausāra pāḍavo or sausāra pāḍyo (सौसार पाडवो and सौसार पाडयो, respectively). Telugu Hindus celebrate the same occasion as Ugadi, while Kannada Hindus in Karnataka refer to it as Yugadi (युगादि/ ಯುಗಾದಿ). Sindhi people celebrate the day as Cheti Chand, it is observed as the emergence of the day of Jhulelal. Prayers are offered to Jhulelal, and the festival is celebrated by making delicacies like tahiri (sweet rice) and sai bhaji.

Why this day is so important for Hindus? *On this day*
- When the entire world was submerged in water, *Sumeru Mountain* emerged from the water.
- 1,97,29,49,125 years ago Brahmā ji started the world order. After intense calculations, the great Rishi chose this day for the Hindu New Year
- *Yuga* changes. Kaliyuga started 5126 years ago
- *Bhagwān Śri Rāma* was coronated
- *Navrātri* festival starts,
- *Vikram calendar* started 2081 years ago. King Vikramaditya defeated Sakas.🕉️

🕉A festival marked by four days of celebration, Deepawali or
Diwali
is the brightest and the most significant festival in Indian culture. It illuminates the country with its brilliance and dazzles people with its joyous celebration. One of the most pious occasions, Diwali is celebrated not only in India but also in southern Asia and in different parts of the world by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains for a variety of reasons. The festival, which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates new beginnings and signifies light over darkness. According to the
Hindu calendar
, Diwali falls in the month of Kartik on the 15th day and on each of the four days of Diwali people witness distinct and well-defined traditions with a sense of joy and goodness. The festival of lights is commonly celebrated by decorating homes with candles and lamps, observing religious rituals, exchanging gifts and wishes to one another and bursting of firecrackers.

🕉 History and Origin of Diwali:Historically, Diwali can be traced back to ancient India. It is most likely a festival of lights which began as an important harvest festival that stretches back more than 2,500 years. However, various legends are associated with the origin of Diwali. Many of these stories are about the triumph of good over evil.

🕉 Tale of the Ramayana
The most popular tale associated with Diwali is the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya following his 14 years of exile and after defeating the demon king Ravana. During this exile, the wicked king Ravana of Lanka abducted Sita. After a lot of hurdles and a lengthy quest, Lord Rama finally vanquished Lanka and saved Sita. In joyous celebration of this victory and the return of King Rama, the people of Ayodhya rejoiced by illuminating the kingdom with earthen diyas, distributing sweets and by setting off firecrackers, a tradition still followed by myriad people who celebrate the festival.

💀Goddess Kali and her story:
In some parts of India, especially in Bengal, the festival is dedicated to the worship of Maa Kali, the dark goddess of strength and is celebrated with much fun and fervour. It is said that Goddess Kali took birth to save the earth and heaven from the hands of the cruel demons. But surprisingly, after killing the demons, Goddess Kali lost control over her wrath and started slaughtering everyone who came her way. Lord Shiva, therefore, had to intervene to stop her from the killing spree. This is the very moment when she steps on Lord Shiva with her red tongue out and ultimately stops her violent activity in horror and remorse.

🌹Tale of Goddess Lakshmi:Most of the Hindu people worship Goddess Lakshmi on Diwali, considering her as a goddess of prosperity and wealth. The day is marked as the birthday of this deity which was the New Moon day of the Karthik month. Utterly impressed by the serene beauty of Lakshmi, Lord Vishnu decided to marry her and, therefore, the diyas were illuminated in a row to mark this occasion. Since then Diwali is celebrated to worship Goddess Lakshmi and seek her blessings.

🏹The Significance of Diwali:
Every ritual of the Diwali festival has a significance and a story behind them. Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. The lights of Diwali signify a time to destroy all our dark desires and thoughts, eradicated dark shadows and evils and gives us the strength and the zeal to carry on with our goodwill for the rest of the year.

🌺Diwali is a celebration that unites people from every nook and corner of the country irrespective of religion and caste. It is a time when people embrace one another with joy and laughter. The festival is celebrated with an air of friendliness and holds an aura of purity.
Homes are illuminated with lights and firecrackers fill the skies as an expression of respect to the gods for the attainment of knowledge, health, wealth, peace, and prosperity. It is also believed that the sound of firecrackers indicates the joy of the people living on earth indicating the Gods of our plentiful state. However, given their environmental impact, people are finding better ways to express their joy.🧚‍♀️

🌑Narak chautardashi or Kali chaudas ☠️

In Hindu tradition, Narak Chaturdashi,or Kali chaudas also known as Chhoti Diwali, is observed a day before Diwali. The day marks the victory of good over evil as it is believed that Lord Krishna killed demon Narakasura on this day.

The day is observed on the Chaturdashi Tithi or the 14th day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik, as per the Hindu calendar.

On this auspicious occasion, devotees worship occult forms. In many states there is a tradition of worshipping Lord Hanuman, Devi Kali & lord Kal Bhairav (Feirce form of lord Shiva) .
Devotees worship shree Kali,Bhairav, Hanuman ji to get rid of all evil forces in life.
Kali chaudas is a favourite day/night for Tantrik's , people who are in to occult sadhna's, night of Kali chaudas or narak chautardashi is a great opportunity for them to achieve siddhi's (spiritual powers) hence on this day certain occult forces such as Kali ,Kal Bhairava & other "Tamsik" forms (forms with certain Black energies connected with them ) are super active,it is also believed that "kali chaudash" is one of the darkest night and energies connected with darkness are super active on this powerful night of "Kali chaudas".

As per the sunrise timings on Chaturdashi Tithi, Narak Chaturdashi will be celebrated on November 11 this year. The Chaturdashi Tithi will begin at 1:52 pm on November 11 and end at 2:43 pm on November 12, according to Hindu Panchang.

🪔 Auspicious rituals and timings.

On this day devotees light a lamp with four wicks in the evening and place it outside the house. It’s believed that placing a lamp outside the house removes all negative energy and obstacles in life. Lighting a lamp in the southern direction of one’s home in reverence to Yama holds immense auspicious significance.

Offering "vada's" made out of udad daal to lord Bhairava & shree Hanuman ji and offering sweets made out of jaggery to godess kali is a favourite thing to do for people who worships these feirce forms after Offering this different food items they start their Japa's or spiritual practices.

According to ancient beliefs, dedicating a lamp to Yamraj (God of Death ☠️) on this day is believed to dispel the fear of untimely death. On November 12, 2023, the muhurat for abhyang snan (giving bath to deities with different Auspicious liquids) will be from 5:28 am to 6:41 am.

🕉️Significance of Narak Chaturdashi or Kali chaudas.

According to Hindu scriptures on the auspicious day of Narak Chaturdashi, Lord Krishna killed demon Narakasura, who had held gods and sages hostage. Troubled by Narakasura’s atrocities, sages, saints and gods sought Lord Krishna’s help. Due to a curse, Narakasura’s demise was foretold to be caused by a woman.
On the Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the Kartik month, Lord Krishna, assisted by his wife Satyabhama, defeated Narakasura. This event led to the tradition of celebrating Narak Chaturdashi, marking the victory of good over evil.
According to mythology, worshiping devi kali on Narak Chaturdashi is a significant practice rooted in religious beliefs in gujrat narak chautardashi is celebrated as "kali chaudash" (chaudash means 14th day of luner cycle, just day before amavasya day which is Diwali 🪔) in gujrat people worship devi kali & lord kal bhairava, It is believed that by worshiping godess kali, lord Kal Bhairav & Lord Hanuman during this festival, the fear of untimely death is dispelled & one gets protection from evil or negative forces or energies.

Manikarnika is one of the five major and oldest pilgrimages and ghats of Kashi. This ghat was named Manikarnika because of the Manikarnika Kund situated on the ghat and the story associated with it. It is known that in the beginning this ghat was one of the major Vishnu pilgrimages and Manikarnika Kund situated at the ghat was known as Chakrapushkarni. According to the belief, when Shiva Parvati was observing the pond, the gem of Parvati's ear fell in Chakrapushkarni. It was named Manikarnika because of the fall of Parvati's ear gem. Presently, this ghat of Kashi is famous for both pilgrimage and cremation ground. This ghat has special importance from the point of view of religious-cultural activities and bathers. There is a special importance of bathing here on the festivals of Sun-lunar eclipse, Prabodhini and Nirjala Ekadashi, Makar and Aries Sankranti, Ganga Dussehra, Teej, Kajri, Chhath, Bhaiya Dooj etc.
