Bear with me with this one! My usual bi-monthly beginner ride was moved from Saturday morning to Friday afternoon. So this ride to and around Norfolk Park has some bike hire available to those who wish to take part.

The ride was moved because on Saturday I am helping out a Dr Bike Event for CyclingUK. I will lead a bike bus to the event which starts at 10am in Clifton Park (Rotherham). This is a one-way ride so you'll have to make your own way home! But while you are there, we'll happily take a look at your bike for free! There is no bike hire for this ride.

Here is a new one. We are going to stay near the city centre this time and enjoy some of the lovely cycle paths here. We'll be heading clockwise around the city centre until we reach Weston Park. There are a couple of short sharp hills but everyone should be able to manage.

Not far from Sheffield is Peveril Castle just above Castleton. This castle has been here for almost 1000 years but has been a ruin for centuries! It’s not easy to walk up to but the views over Hope Valley are breathtaking!

I rented a bike with a FollowMe system for a few days. This is what I thought 🚴♂️🚲
It was pretty great! There are a few steps to remember in order to detach/reattach the little bike but it can be done in less than a minute. The hold on the little bike felt very secure and I wasn’t worried about us separating.
The only drawback is that having someone peddling or looking around behind you really affects that stability of the bike. My hands would get a bit tired from the constant minor corrections to keep us going in a straight line. It’s not an issue when you have a lot of space though.

Next ride is to Millhouses Park. There are a couple of small hills to go over but overall this is one that beginners can manage!

Tonight is a big night here in England. The men’s national team has reached the final of the European Football Championship. They were in this position 4 years ago but lost out to Italy. Hopefully things will go better tonight and they’ll win their first trophy since 1966! 🦁🦁🦁
Don’t forget that the Women’s National team (the Lionesses) won their European Championship in 2022!

This coming Saturday is my favourite ride to Oughtibridge. This one is mostly cycle path and very flat so it's a really good one for beginners.

My next ride is on next Saturday and I am really looking forward to it because it's my most favourite beginner ride. This is the easiest route that I do and it includes the lovely Beeley Woods. I even have some bike hire available for those who wish to try out one of Russell's lovely little city bikes.

Spent the day at the fabulous Longshaw Estate 🌳🏞️
We drove but you could cycle there in just over an hour from Sheffield if you were a confident road cyclist. The highlight is the brook which is perfect for paddling with children. Make sure you bring cash for the ice cream vans! 🍦

Have you been to Sheffield’s new Cambridge Street Collective yet? 🍔🌯🥙
This is Europe’s biggest purpose built food hall. I went for the first time last week and I was extremely impressed. Even if you aren’t hungry it’s worth popping in to check out the terraces and smaller rooms dotted about.

I filmed my adventure to the recycling centre. Bikes sometimes get turned away due to their Cars Only rule. Just some notes that I cut out of the video to keep it short: 1) The chest of drawers weighed about 15kg which is no problem for my eBike. 2) the bang at the start of the video is my kickstand flicking up which caused the cargo to rattle. 3) My camera is mounted on my chest so in reality I could see over the box very easily. 4) The staff at the recycling centre were very helpful and didn’t bat an eye at my bike. #activetravel #recycling #urbanarrow #sheffieldissuper #theoutdoorcity #cargobike #cargobikelife @ed.clancy @cyclesheffield @sustranssheffield
