Last summer we camped at Cape Lookout State Park near Tillamook, Oregon and loved it! Campsites are just steps from the beach, and it was a great central location from which to explore. Consider taking a day trip to Tillamook to take a self guided tour of the Tillamook Creamery. See the famous Multnomah Falls and explore the Columbia River Gorge. Visit Cannon Beach to see the iconic Haystack rock and explore the cute shops and restaurants. All these options are easy day trips! Just make sure that you spend some time at Cape Lookout hiking, exploring the beach, and just relaxing!

I have had the opportunity to go whale watching, not once, but three times, and I will never tire of seeing these amazing animals up close. We have whale watched in Bar Harbor, Cape Cod, and now Puget Sound. It is magical every time. The most amazing experience was in Cape Cod when the whales approached our boat. I felt the spray from the whale when it surfaced and spouted.
Whale watching can be expensive, especially for a family, but I have never regretted the money spent. It is a once-in-a-lifetime (or as many times as you can fit in a lifetime!) opportunity. 🐋
If you want to whale watch, the above mentioned locations are a great place to start. Choose a reputable company that will protect the whales. Read lots of reviews. Indoor seating is a plus as it is often very cold out on the water. Dress in layers and bring snacks as you will often be out on the water up to 4 hours. It will be much colder on the water than it is on land, so be prepared. Binoculars and/or a camera with a zoom lens are great things to bring with you. And always read through the information provided by the whale watching company. They will have lots of great tips to make your whale watching experience a pleasant one.

Fern Canyon is a magical hike in the heart of the Redwoods. It is a canyon with a stream and the walls are covered in ferns on both sides. It's a super easy hike and great for kids to play in the water, climb on rocks, and maybe even find a banana slug. You can also stop by Gold Bluffs beach on your way in or out for a picnic lunch. We spotted tons of Roosevelt Elk in this area. Don't forget to get a permit ahead of time and follow Little Fish Travels for more great tips on exploring the world with your kids!
A little #Fridaytravelinspiration for this mid February day. A sunny getaway can make the longest midwest winters tolerable. Recently, I had the pleasure to travel to Sarasota, FL, and it did not disappoint! See below for a few reasons to consider visiting this sunny location!
