Who here wants to learn how to paddle with their dog? We have 2 Doggie Paddle Academies coming up to teach just that:

Come to one or both! This class is a perfect mix of doggie meetup, tips and tricks, getting comfortable with life jacket, paddle, and kayak, and hitting the water! Also, any other questions you have, Lynn will answer. She is co-founder of Doggie Paddle Academy, former vet tech and park ranger, and current head guide of Goko Kayaks.

Yesterday's Free Kayaking and donation swap was so much fun. We collected lots of random but wonderful donations! Thank you. I could feel the love and the dolphins could, too! They made their appearance in the rain (yes, a squall came and went 🙄) to many paddlers. A slight return to normalcy. Thank you, sincerely, to all who showed up. And thank you to Melissa, fellow USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 78 - Recreational Boating Safety Program AUXPAD Operater, for donating her time to help this event run smoothly. Lastly, thank you to Good Vibes Kayak Rentals for partnering with us and doubling the amount of people we got on the water.

Watching the sunrise over Tampa Bay from my kayak is simply one of my favorite things. The birds are just waking up, the sky is dark, the stars are out, and suddenly, light. Right over the city of Tampa, the huge Florida sun rises effortlessly. The horizon becomes warm with color and the water follows. The terns come out for their seafood breakfast and a lone fisherman paddles to their hole. I sit, take it in, and fill with gratitude.

ALERT PINELLAS: After assessing life-safety hazards, Pinellas County borders and barrier islands are reopened. Residents are advised to stay home if at all possible and to use extreme caution if they must absolutely head out on the road.

Emergency response and road clearing crews continue their response and recovery work, which will be ongoing throughout the next several days. Be respectful of road crews and slow down at all work zones. Power still has not been restored to large parts of the county, which includes many traffic lights. If you must drive and approach a downed intersection, treat it as a four-way stop.

Do not drive in flooded waters which could be exposed to live power lines, sewage and safety hazards. Turn around, don't drown.

ALERT PINELLAS: A Mandatory Evacuation has been ordered for everyone in Evacuation Zone A, B, C, and ALL mobile homes throughout Pinellas County. Those evacuating should have their evacuation completed and be in a safe place by tonight (Tuesday 10/08) before weather conditions become too dangerous.

Major Hurricane Milton is forecast to approach Florida and Pinellas County as a powerful and dangerous major hurricane. A Storm Surge Warning and Hurricane Warning remain in effect for Pinellas County. Life-threatening and catastrophic storm surge flooding is likely in Pinellas County. Major Hurricane Milton has the potential to be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for the Tampa Bay Area according to the National Hurricane Center.

Residents are urged to finalize emergency plans, confirm their evacuation zone, shelter locations, and find other evacuation resources by visiting disaster.pinellas.gov. For the latest weather forecast, see hurricanes.gov and weather.gov/tampa.

Pinellas County has issued a mandatory evacuation of Zone A, B, C, and all mobile homes across the county. Residents in these areas should complete their evacuations and be in a safe place before weather conditions become hazardous. Six emergency shelters are open, including pet-friendly and special needs shelters.

Goko Kayaks is hosting another Doggie Paddle Academy - the weather is perfect to get out on the water with our best friends!

Saturday, October 26th 9:30-11:30am

Tampa Bay is perfect for kayaking, and bringing our dogs can enhance the experience.

As we all know, our pups have different needs and comfort on the water. We will discuss how to kayak with your dog safely and where to go! Unfortunately, not all areas are dog friendly.

With Lynn, Goko Head Guide, former vet tech, boat captain, and dog lover, explore Picnic Island where there is a dog beach to rest, play, and socialize before and after the paddle.

Reservations are required. Please call us at 727-336-9595.

*THIS IS LIMITED TO 5 DOGS PER CLASS!

We strongly recommend a properly fitted life jacket for your dog any time they are on the water.
