Just drove over this little beauty thought I’d share it with you all beautifully designed bridge
Bridge of Dun
Crossing the South Esk River, the Bridge of Dun is a three-span bridge dating back to the 18th century. With beautiful detail added to its columns, A short walk from the nearby train station, the design has a distinctly Gothic flair and was granted a Category A Listing in the 1970s.

Earth houses Carlungie and Ardestie Earthhouses can be found in farmland north of Monifieth and Carnoustie. They date to the late Iron Age, from the 1st to 2nd centuries AD. They are examples of souterrains, probably used to store food

OLD KINNEFF CHURCH THE CROWN JEWELS

This was essentially the church in which the Reverend James Grainger found himself minister when, in late 1651, Cromwell's forces under the command of General George Monck besieged Dunnottar Castle, six miles up the coast. By the time Dunnottar fell on 26 May 1652, it was the last place left in Scotland holding out for Charles II.

Monck was especially keen to take Dunnottar because he knew it was where the Honours of Scotland, the Scottish Crown Jewels, had been taken for safekeeping, and their capture would be hugely symbolic. But when the castle fell, the Honours were nowhere to be found. Reverend Grainger's wife had smuggled them out of the besieged castle and the couple had buried them under the floor of Kinneff Old Church, only revealing their whereabouts after the Restoration of Charles II in 1660.

The church is open to the public and you can see replicas of the Crown Jewels inside as can be seen in the video

Footdee - or Fittie as it is known by locals - is one of the most unique communities in the UK huddled at the end of a rewarding stroll along the beach front.

Interesting Inverbervie

A full scale carved timber replica of the figurehead from the renowned tea clipper "the Cutty Sark" carved from Linton's original drawings 3 metres tall. with a black granite plaque engraved with the image of the ship. The figurehead depicts the young witch in Robert Burns' poem "Tam O Shanter" grasping the tail of Tam's mare, her right breast bared. In the Scot's language 'cutty sark' means a short shirt or shift, it is interesting that despite that fact and the otherwise erotic nature of the figure, the carving is actually wearing quite a long shift, perhaps the Victorian era was much more at ease with t**s than with bums

Hercules Linton the designer of the 'Cutty Sark' was born in Inverbervie in 1837, the ship was built in Dumbarton by the firm Scott and Linton in 1869 and is now kept at Greenwich. (recently damaged by fire 2007). This memorial dedicated by the people of Inverbervie on 11th July 1997 replaces one unveiled by Sir Francis Chichester in 1969 (created by Scott Sutherland 1910 - 1984). Linton died in 1900 in the same house as he was born in and is buried in Inverbervie kirkyard.

Would you believe what’s under the main a92 Stonehaven to Montrose road it the hidden den of finella water fall

Den Finella was named after lady finella who allegedly jumped to her death in 10th century. Lady Finella reportedly lured King Kenneth II to her country home to avenge the death of her only son. After his murder she fled from his guards only to find herself at the top of the imposing falls where she jumped to her death

Walking Gourdon to Inverbervie sea waterfall bridge

07/01/2023

The Old Bridge of Inverbervie was completed in 1799 and was the third bridge to span the Bervie Water at this location. The first bridge was completed in 1474, possibly the handywork of Carmelite monks who had a friary at Inverbervie. The second bridge was a two span masonry arch,
