…The Pacific ocean had been rough during the two sea days after our last stop in San Diego, but while we were cruising up the west coast, the ocean calmed down and the temperatures slowly dropped into the lower 50s from formerly subtropical conditions. It was late April and warmer clothes were now essential for our daily walks around the ship and at our upcoming stops in the ports of Victoria and Vancouver, BC; Seattle, Washington, US; and certainly thereafter onto Alaska... As far as I was concerned, I was a little less excited until I saw that the Holland America Line offered a 27 day “Back to Back” repositioning cruise with full transit of this engineering marvel and up the West Coast into Alaska. And Alaska was on my bucket list

We recently experienced a couple of Florida’s more or less undiscovered towns in Citrus County, Florida about a good half hour east of Crystal River, Florida, the home of the manatees), that reminded us of The Sunshine State’s days long gone by. Elvis filmed scenes for his 1961 movie “Follow that Dream” at the historic courthouse in Inverness.

Mary Draper Ingles … Following the River to Radford, Virginia
Nope, no miss-spelling! I am not talking about Mary Ingalls of “Little House on the Prairie.” I am referring to Mary Draper Ingles, an American pioneer and early settler of western Virginia. The Cedar Key Welcome Center aCedar Key Welcome Centerd as “a place where time stands still. Our check-in turned out to be a surprise! WE HAD NO RESERVATIONS, at least not for the day of our arrival, but two days later. Yup, it turned out that our room reservation, the facial, zip-lining and dinner reservations and my husband’s tee-time had indeed been confirmed by email — but I’d mixed up the dates and so here we were at the busy front desk two days earlier than anticipated! Has that ever happened to anyone of you?
