Mammoth Terrace
With less than 200 moose in and around Yellowstone National Park, a sighting is sure to be a treat during your visit! Here is a photo (taken by Adam Fahnestock) from a tour in May where our guests were able to watch a moose leisurely eat and stroll around. June is filling up so be sure to book your adventure soon to see all the wonders that are available in the park.

Did you know traffic-related accidents are the most common cause of injury and death in Yellowstone? Ensure your safety by following a few simple guidelines:
🦌 Drive cautiously and watch for animals. Yellowstone has hazards on the road you are not used to at home, like 2,000-pound bison! Other road hazards include soft shoulders, potholes, and frost heaves.
🌙 Use extra caution at night. Animal fur absorbs light, making them very difficult to see on roads at night even while using bright headlights. Slow down, especially on curves in the road, when venturing into the park during dark.
🥱 Drowsy? Take a break. Driving while drowsy significantly increases the risk of car accidents, and with over 450 miles of roads in the park, long days behind the wheel are common. Be sure to get adequate sleep before getting behind the wheel, take breaks, and alternate with other legal drivers in your group to protect yourself and others.
🚐 Never park your vehicle in the road or block traffic. If you need to stop or pull over for any reason, use a pullout and ensure all four tires are to the right of the white line. Stay with your vehicle if you’re stopped in a wildlife jam (like this one near Lamar Valley!).
4️⃣5️⃣ Follow the speed limit. The speed limit in Yellowstone is 45 mph (73 kph) unless posted otherwise.
⌚️ Pack your patience. Winding roads and traffic often make drive times much longer than expected!

(Heads Up!) Weather-permitting, the following roads in Yellowstone will open 8 a.m. Friday, May 10 to public motor vehicle traffic:
◾ South Entrance to West Thumb
◾ West Thumb to Old Faithful (Craig Pass)
◾ West Thumb to Lake Village
◾ Tower-Roosevelt to Tower Fall
The public are asked to:
◽ Watch for quickly changing weather conditions and possible temporary closures due to late spring storms. Many areas of the park are still experiencing winter conditions, and snow and ice may cover sections of road.
◽ Stay informed about up-to-date road conditions and traffic delays due to road improvement projects in Yellowstone:

🚙 Call (307) 344-2117 for recorded information.
🚙 Receive Yellowstone road alerts on your mobile phone by texting "82190" to 888-777 (an automatic text reply will confirm receipt and provide instructions).
◽ Come prepared. Park services in the spring are limited.
◽ Bison, elk, bears and other wildlife use roads as travel corridors. Roadside snowbanks prevent them from easily moving off the roads. Do not crowd, harass or push wildlife. Be mindful as wildlife endure this difficult time of the year.
◽ Stay at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves, and 25 yards from all other wildlife. It is your responsibility to maintain safe distances at all times.
