I had the most amazing discovery in the yesterday. The artist (formerly known as Iona Rozeal Brown from my understanding) is my new favorite . Her use of color is incredible! I couldn't help but stare at this painting, and she's from ( if you're not familiar!). You can see the struggle the woman in the painting is having with herself. You. HAVE to see it in person. Great work!

during their open house the other day. Twice a year they actually let you in the reading room to take pictures. If you have ever seen the movie you know plotted on stealing the in this room.

Today we celebrate in America. Inside the rotunda Columbus is honored in 3 different places. The painting is always interesting to me. This is when he lands in the "new world" (not really new...it was already here with millions of people) and "discovering America". He actually landed in the Bahamas which he swore was India until the day he died. He was about 60 miles from what is now Miami, Florida...so he was almost there.
I encourage everyone to read the journal of Christopher Columbus. It is a real eye opener.

This is the detailed white glove inspection that the relief commander performs on the sentinel about to take his walk at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery.
