Before booking your trip that requires a passport make sure you do the following so you will be ready to travel.
Check your passport expiration date. Your expiration date should be far enough in the future because some countries will not accept passports that will expire in six months.
Don’t wait too long to apply for a passport. Do it before you begin making travel plans. Expedite shipping is $60 and it can take up to four - six weeks to receive your new passport. The clock starts once the passport office receives your passport NOT when you mail it. Don’t chance it!
Make sure names are spelled correctly. If you notice a typo the correction process is free but takes time to get it corrected.
Make sure your name has been changed after getting married or divorced. This is NOT done automatically. You will have to use the renewal process and make the changes at that time. Make sure to have documentation that shows the reason for the requested change.
Having too many stamps is a good thing, right? Well, some countries require a certain number of pages to be blank in your passport. ALWAYS check with your destination country to see what their passport requirements are before travel.

If you are thinking about applying for or renewing a U.S. passport now for international travel, please read the Department of State's current international travel advisory. Because of public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have extremely limited U.S. passport operations.
If you apply or renew now, you will experience significant delays of several months to receive your U.S. passport and the return of your citizenship evidence documents (such as birth certificates or naturalization certificates). Why Global Entry and TSA Pre-Check is a Traveler's Best Friend....

For all of us who hate, I mean REALLY HATE waiting in line, this information is sanity saving. For me, the worst lines are at the airports. Thankfully the Department of Homeland Security has provided options to expedite airport lines...and it goes by the name of Global Entry and TSA Pre✓® (TSA Pre-Check).
What is Global Entry? What is TSA Pre-Check?
Here are the answers....
Global Entry is a program that offers expedited clearance when arriving in the U.S for pre-approved travelers. Instead of the long lines to re-enter America, there are these automatic kiosks at select airports that Global Entry users can access and provide information that will allow them to skip the lines, validate their citizenship and re-enter the country.
Once you are approved here is how you use Global Entry:
• Provide your passport or passport card at the GE kiosk
• Scan your fingerprints on the special screen attached to the kiosk
• Insert your customs declaration (provided either as you debark the plane or during the flight)
• A receipt spits out of the kiosk that you can provide to Customs after recovering your bags.
There are some requirements for acquiring Global Entry membership:
• A thorough background check
• An in person interview
• You must pay a non-refundable $100 application fee
Please note, Global Entry membership will most likely expedite re-entry to America; however, there may be instances where additional questioning and examination are still required...even for Global Entry members.
TSA Pre-Check is for expediting the TSA Security lines for domestic flights. Global Entry members are eligible for the TSA Pre✓® program by default, with no further application processes needed.There is a TSA Pre-Check indicator applied to your airline ticket that allows you to bypass the security line for basic travelers and lets you be great as you saunter over to the short and quick TSA Pre-Check line.
TSA Pre-Check is used when purchasing domestic airline tickets:
• Enter your PASS ID or membership number into the "Known Traveler Number" field. This allows TSA's system to verify you are a Global Entry member and therefore eligible for TSA Pre-Check.
OR
• If you have a frequent flyer number, you can enter your number in your frequent flyer profile and it will usually populate the "Known Traveler Number" field automatically for most airline websites when buying domestic airfare.
• After the info is entered and verified, "TSA Pre✓" will appear on your ticket.
