I am surrounded by the treasures coming from the past ❤️
What's unique about this place?

First of all, this is the greatest cloister of Rome belonging to the basilica of Saint John Lateran.

Secondly, this the finest masterpiece by Vassallettos who were the most important family of mosaicists, sculptor-architects working in Rome in the XIII century, as well as the Cosmati family.
They decided to build this "corner of medieval beauty " by using not fragments of ancient monuments , but new architectural elements (colonnades, capitals, cornices, inlays) created directly from scratch .

And the result? A wonderful example of elegance , semplicity and order , of classical tradition.

Oggi tour di Roma antica e del Carcere Mamertino ad un gruppo numeroso di americani di fede cristiana.la posizione del carcere e sempre stata strategica poiché si trova davanti il foro romano come si vede in foto.
Simbolo di giustizia di Roma , nel corso dei secoli il Carcere Mamertino da luogo di morte si trasformò in luogo di fede. Qui ,secondo la tradizione, i Santi apostoli Pietro e Paolo furono imprigionati prima del loro martirio

The Mamertime Prison: from a place of death to a place of faith ❤️ 🫶 here, according to tradition, St. Paul and St. Peter were imprisoned before their martyrdom .

Michelagelo's David is an extraordinary masterpiece of the Renaissance art and not only. .

Imagine a 7 m long and 2 m wide block of marble that had laid beside the cathedral of Florence for decades due to the unfortunate format . All the artists before Michelangelo abandoned this work because of the low quality of the piece of stone.

Imagine the scene for a moment: when Michelangelo was in front of this block of marble, he accepted the challenge between himself and the stone. He believed in his creative soul.

The result is an impressive syntesis of beauty, perfect proportions and the historic values of that time..the Renaissance.
