High K**b overlook, Sullivan County is one of the best overlook and sunset spots in Pennsylvania. From here, over 80 percent of the Loyalsock state forest is visibile. Sun, stars, and open sky provide sometimes unbelievable, beautiful, jaw dropping, photo opportunities.

in 1934, Edgar Kaufmann Sr. took Frank Lloyd Wright on his first site visit to Bear Run. Kaufmann recounts the trip like this:

"The sun was shining when we started. Unusual for Pittsburgh in December... A slight rain began to fall. On to Connellsville, where it turned into a light snow... then down toward Bear Run. Light rain with a magnificent rainbow, which crossed the mountains and dipped into both valleys and greeted us as we arrived.

Turning to me, Wright said, 'Surely something will come out of this journey; after all the elements through which we have traveled, the end is crowned with a rainbow.'"

I found Sullivan county, Worlds End State Park, Loyalsock state forest, and Ricketts Glen, from traveling to Danville for work a few years ago. Most of my people from Pittsburgh thought that it was a crazy idea and too far away for a second home. I say whether it’s for work, family and friends gathering or meeting place, or just a quick escape alone time trip, this place will never leave you homesick or regretting a stay. This work trip most definitely didn’t disappoint with the first beautiful snowfall of the season in PA. Hard to believe this magical spot is an example of the adventures you can take during the stay at the cabin. Conveniently located right on your way and before the popular Ricketts Glen! I always recommend it as a first stop before Ricketts. Afterwards, just backtrack up the isolated road two miles and in 10 minutes you arrive at Ricketts. Perfect day trip, and one that people bypass in the way to infamous Ricketts Glen. And most times you have it all to yourselves! Sullivan Falls!

This overlook just minutes from the cabin!

Loyalsock State Forest in Sullivan County is named for the Loyalsock Creek, a scenic freestone stream that winds through the heart of its 114,552 acres. Head to the forest this summer to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Besides many shorter local trails, 33 miles of the Loyalsock Trail travel through this forest making it an incredible destination to enjoy outdoor activities!

#8 on the list just one mile from our cabin! A fantastic place to plan a summer day trip is Dutchman falls then walking downstream to the haystacks to swim! Pack some snacks, lunch, beverages and be at the parking area in three minutes!
