The Yenidze is a former cigarette factory in the city center of Dresden. It received its unusual architecture, so that it would not interfere with the beauty of Dresden's historic city center. The progressive company owner allowed his workers to rest under the colourful dome. The minaret served as the chimney. On the roof, Dresden's highest beer garden can be found today. Cheers!

Saxony has a new UNESCO World Heritage Site! The town of Herrnhut and Berthelsdorf Castle, where the Moravian Church was founded in 1727 by Count Zinzendorf and Protestant refugees from Moravia. Herrnhut, just a good hour distance from Dresden, is also the place where the famous Moravian Stars were invented and are still made at the Herrnhuter Sterne manufactory.

It's a fantastic feeling when Rick Steves comes to Dresden and you are his guide. And what's more, he introduces you as such to everyone who stops to take a selfie with him and boy, were there many who recognized him!
It was a fun day, and I enjoyed watching him make meticulous notes into a tiny pocket book. with his tiny sharpened stub of a pencil. He sure is is travelling light!

Artisan group from Taiwan
I've been asking groups to stop for a moment at Theaterplatz so that I can take a picture.
The moment I asked them, they were enthusiastic about showing their appreciation for me. I've edited and zoomed in to see the variety of hand gestures they used. Unfortunately, you can't hear their laughter and their cheerful cry of
" Take photo for Seema!". Their expressions will bring a smile to my face whenever I look at these.

The crown gate of the Zwinger in Dresden, erected under Elector Augustus the Strong, who was also King of Poland. On our tours, it is mostly shown from the inside, so that the former moat on the outside remains invisble. After all, the Zwinger sits on a former bastion of the fortifications of Dresden.

Sauerbraten, beef marinated in vinegar, sugar and seasonings, and then braised, is a very popular and typical Saxon dish. It is normally served with red cabbage and potato dumplings. Give it a try. It is delicious!

The unexpected cold wave has put the young vines at risk. Almost all vineyards in Europe hqve been affected. Fires had to be lit in the wee hours of the morning to protect them from early morning frost damage.

The Yenidze was built in 1907 as a cigarette factory for Hugo Zietz designed by the architect Martin Hammitzsch. The unusual building, in the form of a mosque in the Moorish Revival style, was a clever solution to the existing rule that no factory buildings were allowed near the city center. The name Yenidze comes from the area where the to***co was grown for the ci******es, a village in then Turkey.
Nowadays the Yenidze is a modern building with offices, a restaurant and the highest beer garden in the city. Under the colorful glass dome is a small theatre.
The building is enchanting at sunset when the sun streams through the numerous windows like liquid gold.
