Hi Gang, we are getting ready to re-open the Eneabba Visitor Centre (Tempory Location) once again. We really need to have some volunteers willing to offer 2 hours to cover shifts. Training provided. If you are a crafter or artisan, there is space in the centre for your work but you must be prepared to cover some shifts. For details contact myself Kirsty on 0421 708 176 or Marina on 0416 149 116. It is a great chance to help your town without needing to give too much time.

If you are exploring the wildflowers of Lesueur or Badgingarra national parks, make sure to keep an eye out for our Thorny Devils.

They are well camouflaged, have a face that only a mother could love and must live with the scientific name “Moloch Horridus”.

Unlike most campers they just love ants and can be as colourful as the wildflowers you might be seeking.

Where are the wildflowers?

Lesueur National Park, a little northeast of Jurien Bay is blooming beautiful right now and will be for at least the next month or so.

Just like everywhere else, there will be some species that are late bloomers and others that will go to seed early (very similar to humans!)

If you are seeking the Black Kangaroo Paws you may need to wait until mid-September and be prepared for a little searching.

If Orchids are on your agenda, you will need to get here now or at least very soon.

The Ian Wilson trail in the Badgingarra National Park is close to full bloom and the Vern Westbrook Walk in Phoebes Reserve on Northwest Road near Badgingarra is ready and waiting with a mixture of small patches of everlastings, unique bush wildflowers, and interesting history.

Beat the school holiday and long weekend rush whilst the natural displays are at their best.

Back in the old days, camping was simple.

You could just find a spot away from others, pitch your tent, roll out your swag and enjoy your surroundings.

Having a shower was not high on the agenda but if you had one, it was probably a tin bucket with nail holes punched in it, and it was tied up in a tree with maybe a modesty blanket to hide your bits.

Now, finding a quiet spot away from others is not so easy. Some camper`s expectations far outweigh reality, and once quiet places are now filled with campers with more mod cons than a 1960`s house.

First it was Camping but now it is often “Glamping” (or “Gramping” for older folk and maybe “Grumping” for older folk with a bad attitude)

Motor homes get bigger, caravans get longer, we have diesel heaters, portable hot showers and toilets, satellite dishes for TV reception out bush, and car fridges with super quiet generators to run them.

Sometimes It`s almost like being at home without the traffic!

🌜 A Blue Moon is the popular term for a second full Moon in a calendar month. While the Moon won’t actually turn blue, it’s still worth going out and observing the Moon, as blue moons only occur once every 2 or 3 years! To add to the excitement, this blue moon is also a supermoon! Find out what that means here. 🌛

When to look: 31st August, 6:17pm

Which direction to look: The Moon rises in the east.

The sun is shining, spring is nearly here and us Bobtails are out and about.

If you see a slow moving, shingle backed 4-legged critter trying to cross the road, please give us some space.

Newcomers to Sandy Cape.

The Sandy Cape recreation reserve is preening itself for another long weekend of busyness in late September.

For those who have not yet have the privilege of staying there, here are a few pointers.

There are no bookings for Sandy Cape. It is a first in first served campsite. Outside of school holidays and long weekends there is usually space.

The access road off Indian Ocean drive (10 kms north of Jurien Bay) is sealed but the last 1 kilometre is gravel. Roads in the camp areas are gravel.

There are no powered sites but generators are OK during acceptable hours. Toilets are scattered throughout the campgrounds with cold showers available in the south section.

Dogs are welcomed if they are attached to responsible owners via a lead.

Campfires are allowed at this time of year, but you will need to bring your own firewood (available for sale in Jurien Bay at various outlets)

Snorkel, sandboard, swim, or stay on top of an SUP.

There is a world class collection of vintage Vincent motorcycles in Jurien Bay.

Even if you only have a passing interest in two wheeled transport or old things, a visit to Ian Boyd`s collection is something to wonder at.

If your interest is in the “keen” category, and you take the time to chat with Ian and check out his collection, make sure to take a napkin or two to soak up the drool. The collection is stunning.

Viewing is by appointment. Call us for Ian`s contact details.
