Hi Cynthia,
Here is a picture of a big sail boat on the waterway submitted by one of our visitors.

Good idea stepping down the mast. There are height restrictions. You are fine with your 3'6" keel.

PORT SEVERN SWING BRIDGE UPDATE

Peterborough, Ontario, October 12, 2010 – The Superintendent of
the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada advises that
when the Trent-Severn Waterway closes for navigation on October 13, 2010
the Port Severn Swing Bridge will remain closed to vehicle traffic,
pending the completion and installation of a new replica bridge. It will
be open for snowmobile and pedestrian traffic. It is anticipated that
the new bridge will be ready for operation when the Trent-Severn
Waterway navigation season opens in May 2011.

The design phase of the bridge project has been completed. The
construction contract will be posted for competitive bids within several
days.

The Port Severn Swing Bridge has been in the open position to allow
vessel traffic to pass through the navigation channel, bringing
significant economic value to the communities of Central Ontario along
the Trent-Severn Waterway. Parks Canada works to ensure that Canada’s
historic, cultural and natural heritage is presented and protected for
the enjoyment, education and appreciation of all Canadians, today and in
the future.

Significant effort has been made by both Parks Canada and the project
manager, Public Works and Government Services Canada, to reduce the
impact that the bridge closure has had over the duration of the project.
The Port Severn Swing Bridge is a tourism and historical icon, and a
sanctioned route under the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs. With
this in mind, the project schedule has been aligned to accommodate the
snowmobile tourism season this winter in Port Severn, and this
snowmobile route will be made open once that season begins.

In order to provide accurate and ongoing communications, project details
will be shared and made immediately accessible on the Parks Canada
website at www.pc.gc.ca/trent.

The 2010 season is starting up. The ice has left the lakes. Be careful out there right now. The water level is much lower than normal.
